I often see people claim that because clean energy sources like solar, wind, or nuclear are manufactured using fossil fuels their emissions are high. But thats absolutely not the case: even accounting for full lifecycle emissions they are vastly better than burning coal or gas:

Btw while I have your attention on diet and climate, “eat local” also isn’t a real climate strategy either. To reduce climate impact: 1. Minimize your food waste 2. Eat more plants and less animal-based foods (esp beef and lamb) 3. Everything else matters a lot less (so eat what you like)
ourworldindata.org
You want to reduce the carbon footprint of your food? Focus on what you eat, not whether your food is local
“Eat local” is a common recommendation to reduce your diet's carbon footprint. How does the impact of what you eat compare to where it comes from?

Good article, but there’s one understated piece: higher land use of organic ag means that if we shift toward organic at current consumption patterns, more natural ecosystems need to be cleared for farming, causing carbon losses, making total GHG emissions of organic usually higher vs. conventional.

Farmers are more important than tech bro’s. Time to start paying more attention to farmers than we do to tech bro's.
Letter from Guy from Riverford is angry that outlets like The Economist and The Telegraph long argued rising CO2 and temperatures would benefit European farmers, when in reality extreme weather (not averages) is what determines crop yield and quality — and extremes are increasing fast. On Riverford’s farms, heat above 32°C has caused aubergines and runner beans to abort fruit, Spanish suppliers are struggling too, carrots have half-failed, potato yields are down 25%, and unirrigated crops like broccoli and cauliflower face steep losses. He closes by criticising the diversion of capital toward AI data centres — which get water and energy while farms run dry — over genuine climate transition.

Also FYI, the majority of Colorado River water used for farms is actually for cattle feed (alfalfa and hay). The minority of the agricultural water use is for food people eat directly, like wheat or produce. science.nasa.gov/missions/lan...

A simple point that surprisingly few people understand: "The longer we wait to reach net zero, the higher the eventual peak temperature will be, and the worse the associated damage. Warming is now nearly 1.4C above pre-industrial levels. Imagine summers when it gets closer to 2C."
