1. Did u know? One of the most exciting newcomers to our wildlife garden are Large-headed Resin Bees. These tiny little blips, only 5mm long are rare in the UK, with most records in the south east, but its territories are expanding, north, like to us, in the Cotswolds.... 🌍🪲🐝🌿🌱🇬🇧🌱

@janpsolivagant.bsky.social Thanks for this week’s #PromptCombo #NamingSorrow I feel a bit hesitant to post this hastily cobbled together effort that’s had no edits done, but I fear I won’t post it at all if I hesitate, so here is my offering. Thanks. Enjoy your hosting week #poetry #Poems
A poem by Debbie Ross in 4 irregular stanzas entitled

Counting My Blessings

Text as follows
Should we name our sorrows, number the dents and scratches on our bodywork?
Should we extricate and extrapolate,
fix and fiddle
with mechanisms we don't understand?
Sure, naming the beast may reduce its powers, bring into light what has been kept buttoned and bonneted.
Mil tell you my sad stories if you tell me yours.
But remember,
we are not our past, we are not
what was done to us.
We are stitched together with love and friendship and all the bright things that drive out the dark.

Many thanks to @jenthorne.bsky.social for her superb #PromptCombo last week This week's theme is #NamingSorrow Hosted by me @janpsolivagant.bsky.social From wistful poems to poems of longing, ennui, spleen, doldrums, depression, melancholy etc. #poetry #poetrycommunity #writingcommunity
Retiring Melancholia

Tuneless hollows are left in our
Lexicon when Melancholia gives way to
Depression.

Blood, phlegm and yellow bile have
Bodily coordinates, but
Black bile is nowhere to be found.

We yoke together what is unalike -
Claim knowledge of what we can
Never possess.

But Depression now dulls with
Insipid breath – blunting us to the
Rage of its mud-ink inferno.

Both are fabled beasts -
Knocked up from sundry moods,
Ordeals and sources.

Our
Unique distress is
All too lethal -
All too real -
Draped in a name that
Obscures more than it
Reveals.
