Hacking into things Campbell Newman style as a response to populism is only going to impact the most vulnerable. Straight away this migration plan will hit sectors like aged care, putting increased workload on the existing labour force. #auspol www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Taylor concedes aged care workers would be hit by migration plan

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

"By using AI, tasks like essays that used to take hours can be completed in minutes!" Sure, like how if I arrive at the gym and immediately go for a shower, my workout is done in record time. And if I throw my sandwiches straight in the bin, I can finish my lunch in under 10 seconds.

Woke up during the night because windows rattled & bed shook. Thought it was weird & wondered if it was an earthquake, so took note of the time (2:01 am). Very excited to hear now it •was • one, with Leongatha epicentre. Hope no major damage anywhere, but glad I noticed it in inner north Melbourne

Black netting is slightly less visible than other colours, but agree, it’s still a bit unsightly. But a catio somewhere for them to access the outdoors would be great!

Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

An expert at the University of Copenhagen said his team had been sharing its research with the company’s A.I. model, Claude, and that its new finding matched their work.

Have you considered netting the whole balcony to make a catio? I’m sure both Mia & Finn would appreciate the environmental enrichment of outside access whenever they wanted it, with all the associated stimulating scents, sounds & sights. While keeping the wildlife (and pussycats) safe.

I don't know if anyone cares, but Victoria's proposed rules do not "force datacentres to use renewable energy", and falsely stating that they do is actively helping the data centre industry do the pretend-fainting shock performance they're doing to try and kill even the weakest of regulations
But the peak body for datacentres has made no secret of its disappointment. It warns the new rules, which also force datacentres to use renewable energy, could cause investment to flow to other states.

Feel very sorry for Freo & Dockers fans. So hard to lose in the last few minutes, & after their heroic captain went down. But they squandered the advantage of their dominance in the 3rd quarter by not kicking straight. Brisbane was always going to come back. It’s a cruel game sometimes #AFL #AFLGF

Farmers who intend to vote for One Nation should know that they are accepting that “climate change” is normal.By doing so they will negate any logical argument for taxpayer assistance when “normal” weather events occur. Don’t ask for help if you deny the very thing you need help to overcome!

Good choices!! I’ll be going for Freo in the grand final, even though I’m a Cats (Geelong) fan. I’d recommend watching a replay of the last 12 minutes of the Bris vs Haw game if you can, just for the pure excitement of watching the momentum swings, even when you know the outcome.

It would be easy to call this the “new normal“ but that’s incorrect. In actual fact, “normal” is going to keep getting worse and worse and worse. Just how bad it will get depends entirely on how fast & far we go on real, legitimate (not performative) #ClimateAction. We know how. It’s about will.

Mao of eastern Australia, the Pacific Ocean and a marker in the middle of the ocean denoting Kiritimati, where the otherwise fairly straight north/southern International Date Line bulges out significantly further east.
