More prisons won’t make us safer. The CLP’s plan for a 1,200-bed private prison could expand capacity by 40% in a Territory that already leads Australia in incarceration rates. Real safety comes from investing in crime prevention and rehabilitation, not corporate profit.

Estimates Update #44: The Auditor General can't conduct standard performance or "follow the dollar" audits. He says the risk is that public money is being spent without us knowing if it is achieving what it should be.

Estimates update #43: 65% of Territory Generation's investments are in gas. They said protecting that investment doesn't affect their decision making but refused to table any modelling showing how they make decisions about investing, including in renewables.

Estimates Update #42: Territory Generation has installed their first large scale battery which has allowed them to turn off a whole gas turbine, saving $10 million dollars and 58 thousand tonnes of Co2 from entering the atmosphere! Lets get another one!

Update #39: The Attorney General blocked the Anti-Discrimination and Children's Commissioner's from answering my questions. These are independent statutory offices, who play a critical role within our democracy to hold the Government to account and ensure the rights of Territorians are protected.

Estimates Update #38: When I asked the Attorney General whether she has any formal framework on consultation for legislation she answered. "The formal framework I adhere to is the one that Territorians elected us to do which is restoring the territory lifestyle".

Estimates Update #37: The Attorney General appeared to confirm that most of the extra $5.5million allocated to Legal Aid this year has not actually been provided to it, because Legal Aid hasn't signed a funding agreement it was offered in May last year.

Estimates Update #26/2: The Minister was unable to identify any specific supports for Kriol-speaking students. Kriol is used every day in our schools, courts and hospitals. Calling it "broken English" disrespects the Territorians who speak it.

Estimates Update #26/1: The Education Minister described Kriol as "broken English". Kriol is the NT's second most spoken language and the first language of thousands of Territorians. It is a recognised language, not broken English.
