New blog post now up! Read on for some thoughts on Anna Bogutskaya's emotion-led portrait of post-2014 horror. horror.glasgow.ac.uk/review-feedi... @drgavinmiller.bsky.social
Book cover with a dark background and the title 'Feeding the Monster' in large red font. The font is stylised so that it looks like blood is dripping from it and there are silhouettes of flies surrounding in. Below this there are endorsements in white text that read, 'A worthy successor to Stephen King's Danse Macabre.' (Esquire) and 'Timely and deeply empathetic' (Observer). At the bottom, the book's subtitle 'Why horror has a hold on us?' is in white text with the author name 'Anna Bogutskaya' in red below.

The cryptic (cryptid) connection between Loch Ness and Scottish UFOs is so often overlooked. Saucers in the air over the Loch. Men in Black roaming the shores. And Nessie herself -- was she just a leftover dinosaur, or was she an interdimensional trickster entity?
An A4 image. In the left half a monochrome flying saucer passes above Loch Ness while Nessie looks up and exclaims 'Jings, crivens, help ma boab!'. In the right half, text explains that in 1974, a Loch Ness monster investigator, Frank Searle, photographed a flying saucer moving at 'the speed of a jet' over the loch. However, many people believed Searle was a hoaxer, since the saucer looked a lot like a ladies' hat thrown in the air. Searle later claimed to have seen two baby Loch Ness monsters playing in a stream at the edge of the loch ... but they swam away before he could catch one. The text references the Daily Record newspaper, 2 December 1974.

I bet Foucault didn't spend his afternoon drawing Scottish flying saucers on A4 paper. Your loss, Michel.
An A4 sheet. In the left hand is the image of a circular object against a background of stars in the night sky. On the right, text explains that in 1954, eighty-two-year-old Mrs Mary Wilde of Dundee looked out of her window and saw a circular 'moon-shaped' UFO gliding high above the River Tay. It was two o'clock in the morning, and Mrs Wilde had heard a jet plane fly past about 10 minutes before. Other people in the area saw the object as well. The Air Ministry said it was a weather balloon launched from RAF Leuchars airbase in Fife. The story comes from the Dundee Courier, 27th October 1954.
