Have been rather haunting the local yarn shop for postbox reds & glorious garnet shades & today they were finally in stock! Some is earmarked for a promised gift, & the rest loveliness for a stitch & witch coven valentines craft ceilidh of lovehearts, ladybirds, & little birds...

A large wooden bowl filled with red yarns, some of them sporting tiny golden wren brooches that were for sale in the shop next to the yarn shop & just had to jump into my shopping basket, all on green grass in a darkening garden.

Oh this thing is *great*

A strange wooden object. It's an elongated diamond shape, with slightly curved sides and a hole in the center, about half an inch thick.

The object is shown being used to hold open a book, the user wears it on their thumb and the long ends of the diamond shape press down across opposite pages to make reading with one hand much easier.

Taking this to to the people who commissioned the work, today. The guy had asked me for an engagement ring box, followed by a memory box for their wedding day, previously, delivering the table would kinda complete the circle in a way. A final day at "work" before some downtime from the day-job.

A wooden yo-yo sits on my desk. It’s Walnut on the outside and Maple on the inside of each half, resembling a chocolate cookie with a creamy filling.

Names for other yo-yos I make include Speed Racer, Cherry Drop, Melody, Maple Classic, and Padaukadunk.

source material to (almost) completed table top..customer supplied the gnarly old church pew benches and asked for an eight seat dining table. timber supplier just delivered the oak beams to create x-frame legs & braces, that'll wait until next time, its the weekend, there's a party with family

The boards were full of ancient cut-clasp nails

Every time the oil finish is applied is a wow moment

I'm searching for something metallic to combine with epoxy filler for all of the "character" blemishes in the finished table

This is the condition of the boards I had recieved, ancient, gnarled, lots of patina

Church-pew table top, bonded..thinking about the corner rounding detail, prepping a template for the router. The leg-frame cutting list is with the supplier, they're very good and often deliver within a day.

Really looking forward to seeing the patina and tone from these boards, salvaged from a church, repurchased as dining table

Lunchtime woodworking progress report: starting to look like a toy sword now. I thought about making some shields too but I realized that swords + shields would lead to WAY more child injuries than just a sword alone.

Wooden toy sword in progress, clamped to my woodworking bench. I’ve got the crossbar fitted on and I started carving the blade shape and straightening it out with a card scraper.

Switched my attention to working on this, soon to be, oak dining table commission. The boards have been salvaged from church pews where the client and his spouse had recently been wed. Dressing the boards has revealed this nice figuring, and possibly a makers label from my hometown #sunderland

Peeling back the original finish to reveal the grain of the reclaimed oak boards

I'm assuming this makers label may once have referred to a maker based in Sunderland, where I was born and grew up. What goes around, comes around.

We haven’t yet baked a cake to properly put this cake knife I made to use but I have been using it to let my kid try out knife skills safely on some trader joe’s pastries and it turns out to be great for that. I might make more for friends with kids.
