Coincidentally, I've been linking all of my year 11's quadratic work to sketching graphs today. We explored x=0, y=0 (and hence solving, usually by factorising) and completing the square for min/max. There's a brilliant @draustinmaths.com worksheet that I then gave them to practice. Small steps 😁

Yesterday we looked at algebraic function machines. Year 7 enjoyed making the inputs and outputs with the real tiles and asked me if they could use them again in the next lesson. I also enjoyed using my new pen tool of course! #MathsToday

I got to do some #MathsToday 😁 using this lovely task with new leads of A Level Pedagogy Work Groups. If you teach A Level anywhere in England, I would really encourage you to contact your local Maths Hub and join a Work Group for 3 days of brilliant free CPD.

In #MathsToday Yr 1 #AlevelMaths proved the quadratic formula using an underground maths card sort, did some explorative work on key features of quadratic functions using factorised form and completing the square and then completed DrAustin finding quadratic equations from their graphs. In #MathsToday I spent time with a student on TMUA questions. His big question was how do you know whether to take an algebraic or graphical approach because if you don't pick the right one you run out of time. Any advice? Also, has anyone collated logic qu from MAT which would be good TMUA practice

In #MathsToday I gave my new yr 12 class some of the trickier questions from their IGCSE exams in the summer to see if there were any rusty skills! Yr 10 recapped fraction skills including considering whether a common numerator might be more efficient when comparing fractions such as 3/11 and 4/15

In #MathsToday, I had my first after-school lesson with Year 10 Level 2 Further Maths. We looked at some different problems that just happened have some Pascal's triangle under the surface. Then explored how you can interpret each problem either recursively or combinatorially.
