Finished 2 full lesson days with some polynomial division with Y12. I learnt using long division at school, but have introduced it using the grid method this time. How do others do it?

“Nothing of huge excitement” is the #MathsToday ethos. Tell us one little thing that happened in your classroom - it doesn’t have to be polished, or original, or your best ever lesson. If you’ve not done this before, I’d encourage you to join in. It’s a lovely positive habit for the new term.

In #mathstoday Y9 reviewed expanding double brackets. They groaned when I showed them a variation grid from @studymaths.bsky.social's site, but good discussions followed when I encouraged them to spot the patterns and find shortcuts to help speed up filling it in. mathsbot.com/grids/binomi...

Do any IB teachers here have experience of or advice for teaching AA SL and HL together? We're having to do this next academic year and are trying to work out how to feasibly arrange the course, with Y13 material a particular challenge. TYIA #MathSky #IBMaths

If I shuffled 10 cards, ace through 10, what's the probability that if I reveal the cards one by one, somewhere in the sequence I will get a 6 immediately followed by a 7?

"The best way to revise maths is to do maths" - Y11 maths teachers around now. This QR code poster generates simple revision grids of 12 questions loosely* tied to GCSE grades. *This will get better over the years. (I'm almost 3 years into the MathsBot curriculum project now)
9 QR codes, each linking to a revision grid of 12 questions roughly aimed at grades 1 to 9.

More of a formal intro to Hypothesis testing in #MathsToday, introducing key terminology. Wondering whether to simply my conclusions to 'reject null' or 'do not reject null' (with a sentence on context as required). How necessary is the phrase 'in/sufficient evidence to...'? Do others do without?

Someone I follow has a great parabola plotting tool on their website. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Side note: Do any other maths teachers try to avoid the words 'right' and 'too' during conversations with students? Can be very confusing depending on the subject! Isn't English silly 🫠

In #mathstoday (well, yesterday) I began my journey with Y10 towards further trig, specifically the sine rule, via circle theorems after being inspired by Don Steward (donsteward.blogspot.com/2012/04/sine...). This meant a lesson on constructions and thinking about centers of triangles. Great fun!

In #mathstoday we calculated the bond angle in methane. It was nice to follow this idea through that I'd had last week. I borrowed molymod kits from the chem department to help with the visualisation and this diagram provided a good amount of scaffolding (davechessgames.blogspot.com/2018/01/calc...)

@teakayb.bsky.social I think the shortest path is this: Write the number in binary and read from left to right: If it's a 0, do "x2". If it's a 1, do "x2", then "+1". 100 decimal = 1100100 binary, so it's +1, ×2, +1, ×2, ×2, ×2, +1, ×2, ×2.
