Say what you like about the opportunity-cost of social media, but at least you’re not reading that Princess Diana book right now.

There are too many red flags in this piece (starting with the loathsome title) to address them one by one, so suffice it to say that the person who tells you you don’t need a union is the reason YOU DO need a union.

Big drive coming up, and the days are shortening at top speed, so check your car emergency readiness! 1. Sort your breakdown cover. If it’s with the AA, I suggest you switch! 2. If you only take one extra thing, make it a charged backup battery for your phone (plus any leads to go with)

Happy #eclipse day everyone! Here are some of my pics from March 2015. I would NOT recommend looking at the sun through ordinary binoculars, but they do a lovely projection onto a clipboard.
Partial solar eclipse projected onto a flat surface using a pair of binoculars, giving twin images of the solar crescent. The same partial solar eclipse, through thin cloud, reflected on a smoked glass window.

To be INCREDIBLY clear. I will not be looking at the Sun through the colander. I will be using the colander as a pinhole camera having turned my back to the Sun. I love my retinas just as they are. DO NOT look at the Sun through anything that isn’t a set of safe eclipse glasses.

100% Axing Jodrell Bank may be the most visible, but is just one symptom of the catastrophically shit POLITICAL CHOICE to not maintain STFC funds to meet the costs of R&D, and to cannibalise research infrastructure - the health of the R&D ecosystem - for a superficial bump to commercial targets

If you’re writing about the STFC cuts in general and defunding of Jodrell Bank in particular, check your superlatives… A) ‘decimation’ is cutting 1 in 10… try ‘devastation’ instead. B) ‘iconic’ is faint praise indeed when you’re talking about a literal World Heritage Site
