As part of #TaxJusticeScotland we're calling on the First Minister to take practical steps to make the tax system fairer: • replace Council Tax with a fairer system • accelerate the introduction of a strong private jet tax Those with the most wealth should pay their fair share bit.ly/TJSFMLetter

Plans to reduce public sector workforce when satisfaction and access to public services is under strain is...a choice. With growing and increasingly complex demands on the state, now is not the time to cut state services further. Rather genuine public sector reform is needed. Read our latest report

New polling shows strong support for council tax reform. Just 2% of people support the current regressive system. Five times as many Scots back reform in the next Parliament as oppose it 👇

I wrote a thing about the unreality of the debate on disability benefits, where it comes from and how it affects us. It cost a few spoons to do it, but I think it would have cost more not to. Have a read if you're interested: www.christineberry.net/2025/03/the-...

Politics is ultimately about choices: how you raise cash and where you spend it. Labour acts as if they are forced to cut disability benefits but leading economists say they can avoid it by taxing the super rich. Spending cuts are a political choice. Don’t let them pretend otherwise.

This is a great illustration of what the new energy order looks like: ➡️ large to small ➡️ centralised to decentralised ➡️ large grids to microgrids ➡️ one-directional to bi-directional ➡️ passive consumers to active prosumers Of course simplified & highly stylised but it shows the direction of travel.

📢 New report out now highlights how our economy is failing the people of Scotland. We joined voices with leading academics and economists to call for the people of Scotland to have more of a say in the decisions that impact their lives. Find out more: www.weallscotland.org/post/new-rep...
"In a just and compassionate Scotland, everyone should have the opportunity to thrive. But right now people are struggling as we face increasing financial and environmental crises caused by our outdated economic model. We need to include the people of Scotland in the conversation about how we redesign our economy so that it delivers social justice on a healthy planet. We need a Wellbeing Economy." “Without a step-change, we are now at risk of going backwards.” Important new report from Scotland’s Just Transition Commission, highlighting the need for more ambitious policy to ensure Scotland delivers a just transition.
Front page of Conditions for Success, the 2024 annual report of Scotland's Just Transition Commission.

Foreword: "It has been a particularly busy and productive year for the Commission, as we zeroed in on the question of how the climate transition is reshaping different places across the country. We chose to visit Grangemouth, Shetland, Dumfries and Galloway and Aberdeen, each of them just transition “hot-spots” with distinctive
local characteristics.

"A consistent theme of our work this year has been a shift away from a sense that a just transition would be a “nice-to-have”. Instead, we have seen and heard very directly how success on this agenda is already critical to the lives and livelihoods of people up and down the country, and sure to grow in prominence in the years ahead. Workers fear they are facing a “cliff edge” at the same time as storms and floods have grown increasingly frequent and severe."
