If nothing else AI is making clear that there are people all around us for whom writing, art, and music are not communion with another mind, but just - wallpaper. Just pleasant things to look at. They think AI is conscious because they have no actual grasp of what it is to encounter another mind.

Some other Anglosphere green parties have been in coalition govts off lower % vote in proportional parliaments, or have one or two better electoral results (hi PEI Greens!), but Aus Greens are notable in Anglosphere. Discourse here about "why aren't the Greens doing better?" needs more perspective

When the public thinks about "AI" they think about chatbots and internet slop but the real *transformation* stuff is in business processes / backends - and it's far from clear to what extent consumers will get any derived benefits. See for eg the AI arms race between insurers and hospitals below.

We (rightly) talk a lot about gas, but we should not forget we export a hell of a lot more coal and most of it is for burning for electricity rather than being used to produce steel. And all of it destroys the planet. #NoNewMines
