No, but having child does remind you of how much more rewarding it is to give than to receive. And once your children are grown and flown, it helps to remember there are other children and even fully adult people out there in need of care and nurture. Having a child helps but is not necessary.

It is worse than that here. I live in a solid red county in eastern Washington where everyone here blames "Democrats" for "high property taxes" (local property taxes are actually fairly low). There is no income tax. All our local legislative reps, county reps, and other officials are Republican.

I am really impressed at the amount and quality of lockup racks at that store. I live in a small city that you can bike across in 20 minutes, and None of the hardware stores or home improvement stores have any bike racks whatsoever within walking distance. Blind faith or creative locking ensues.

This is systemic--in my previous city, I struggled with city engineers who insisted it was necessary to widen the street in the historic district where I lived to facilitate "commuters" from outlying districts newer infrastructure. My historically quiet, narrow street was turned into a 4-lane blvd.
