Musk is an idiot. If anything he’s evidence of the extreme wealth concentration that late stage capitalism can produce. Solidarity with the transgender community. 🏳️‍⚧️ ✊🏻

The large number of emails I now get that are obviously AI is kinda annoying. I’d rather just have the human send me the prompt or bullet points of what they want to tell me; it would actually be more respectful of my time and get to the point!

Injury is the worst. There is absolutely nothing like an injury to completely take you out for months. I’ve had some big humbling lessons in “no, you aren’t 20 anymore” and “that pain, that’s your body telling you to ease off a bit before you hurt yourself old man” Christ I miss being 30.

I’ve gone in deep on @typst and literally can’t stop. It is so fast. The compile cycle for me has gone from minutes to miliseconds. Tinymist is also immense. I’m all in. Converting all my workflows out of latex.

My first thought was a backyard ultra. I like the format and think it would suit me. But I also like the idea of seeing a lot of terrain and having to navigate it. Any tips/thoughts?

I have a theory, patients on myriad drugs, actually receive them all for the first time when they hit hospital as they are prescribed and administered. which makes patients acutely worse. Anyone on 10 plus drugs (without a box) surely can’t take them all! Just speculation, but it makes sense

Ooooph. Brilliant. 3rd over what time scale (I know you are into ultra)? I’m still working on multiple injuries (getting old). Back to about 18 km now, and trying to add 10% each week. Aim is to do an ultra before I’m 40 😬 the mind is willing but my tendons… I’m not so sure!

@typst.app is there a good style guide anywhere for best practices with code? Things like nesting functions, indentation etc.

I’ve finally moved some essential workflows from latex to @typst.app and honestly, it’s just perfect. It’s so easy to work with and control every element. Logical. Fast. It actually makes to shudder to think how many hours I’ve spent debugging latex.

Copilot bollocks appeared on my Mac version of Word this morning. There appears no option to remove it, I assume because it's licensed through my university, who have drunk all the LLM Coolaid in the universe. If I cannot find a way to remove it in the next ten minutes, MS Office is getting deleted.

Pedestrianization is often framed as transforming streets. In many cases, we're actually restoring them. We're reclaiming what's been lost: social connection, local commerce, civic life, and human-scale movement. Perhaps it's time to shift from street transformation to street restoration.

I do think we’ve created this entire industry around reaction rather than prevention. We (as a society) drink++, eat++, smoke and then expect medicine to somehow pick up the tab. I know it’s complex and easier said than done, but we desperately need preventative interventions from childhood.

The scariest thing about this, is that it’s taken the collective global economic effort of the modern era to bring this change over decades. The thought that we can somehow reverse this on a sensible timescale without a similar effort seems far fetched.

Towards the end of training I loathed rotating. Constantly reforming social connections every few months. What I hadn’t expected was the same feelings as a consultant. Meeting so many wonderful people who en masse are pulled away every few months. We really need to fix this.
