Anaesthesia for stroke thrombectomy
Despite improvements in acute care and management of risk factors, stroke remains the third most common cause of death and the leading cause of disability in the developed world.1 Globally, the absolute number of strokes and stroke-related deaths has increased substantially over the past 3 decades. This upward trend is projected to continue until at least 2046, driven primarily by population growth and ageing.1,2 In the UK, age-standardised rates of stroke incidence and mortality have declined, but the overall burden remains high because of changes in patients’ characteristics as reflected in its persistent impact on public health.
