Horrible news. I used to teach her “Post-Fordist Desires” essay in my Sex, Aesthetics, Capitalism class and the students, year after year, would mark it as a highlight of the semester.

The experience of the rebooted Gilded Age is hard to get a systematic handle on. How can everything carry premium/designer/elite/platinum pricing? How does that feel? Here are three versions of what I've been thinking of as luxury offgassing. 1. Airlines race to premium (Delta CEO to WSJ)
Delta CEO explaining to WSJ about premium creep
WSJ: Are there any segments of consumers where you are seeing any resistance to higher fares? Are there people out there who are kind of throwing in the towel?

BASTIAN: I wouldn’t say throwing in the towel, but those at the lower end of the economic curve are going to be the most sensitive, and that’s why we reduced our supply offering in that market.

Screenshot of article which reads: We are surrounded by a petrified silence for self-preservation, the
predominant institutional feeling in our present. Perhaps the framework
of anticipatory complicity for our universities helps us better confront the
profound existential crisis our fields face with internal attacks on gender
ideology that have exposed scholars of women, gender, and sexuality to
ruthless scrutiny. We need to reckon with not only the shockingly rapid
dismantling of our field of gender and sexuality studies in 2025 and the
lack of substantial opposition and a defense of academic freedom in the
university today, but decades of starvation of WGSS by colleges and uni-
versities. Then we might find new ways to contest the university’s com-
plicity with the only actual gender ideology at play today: state-enforced
gender binarism.

A great, clarifying article: "[We] need to fight to reverse deskilling by empowering the academic proletariat to again make meaningful decisions—about their own work, if not about all institutional spending—thus returning the 'brain' of educational work to the classroom from the central office."

noise means a large enough amount of information that one cannot decipher a specific component of it from the rest when confronting it all at once i.e. white noise being literally every audible frequency at the same time. but that doesn't mean you can't extract specific elements out of the wall.
