I had the misfortune of riding in the back of a Tesla recently and everything in that back seat seems designed to make it difficult to get out of without explicit driver permission and I just kept thinking “…yeah that makes sense”

The far right power grab is global and entirely organized, moneyed & interconnected. No matter where it happens, every pillar of free society that falls has been and will continue to be everyone’s problem. It’s a domino effect.

Also, and I mean this with genuine warm thoughts for everyone‘s spiritual and intellectual well-being: I would tell the people who think it’s ok to replace artists with GenAI to eat shit, but instead I’ll just say I hope you think about how to repair having blood on your hands. Forever.

A lot of people are struggling right now. Including your queer and trans fam, and your artists friends, and the people who are both. The mental health pressures are real and the consequences are potentially devastating. Check on your people. Let them know how much you love having them around.

Me: oh wow, this shop has everything my heart desires!

Spooky shopkeeper: yes, I will warn you... every item comes with a price.

Me: yes, I know how shops work

kittydesade

Spooky Shopkeeper: The price may be more than you expect to pay.

Me: Yes, I know how US taxes work, too.

Shopkeeper, increasingly exasperated: I'm trying to tell you that I'm evil and offering these wares with no regard for the harm they will do!

Me, also increasingly exasperated: I know what capitalism is too goddammit

I recall v.clearly watching in a local pub when Wright scored for England vs Italy in June 97. The response around me was real fury that a black man had scored for England. The mood was so poisonous that I had to leave. These delusions of English innocence and "who we are" as a country serve no one.

As I've said, the language/framing of commercial LLM techbros is the same as that of colonial occupation & of rape culture: "accept this is happening (against ur will bc we don't give a fuck about consent), accept bad things (happening to you not us), & be grateful for the supposed positives."

a little louder for the cheap seats in the back
One of the biggest myths is that men rape by mistake. Like, "Oh, they need consent training." But research is very clear: Sexual violence is not a mistake. It is an intentionally made decision by people who know they don't have consent. They just don't prioritize consent over things like status, power, domination, and sexual gratification.
For my research, I got a certificate of confidentiality from the National Institutes of Health, so my notes couldn't be subpoenaed. One of the reasons I call them perpetrators in my work is because every single person I interviewed confessed in that context. The first question I would ask them was, "When you received that email from Title IX that you were under investigation, did you know what it was about?" Every perpetrator I interviewed said "yes." If sexual assault were a miscommunication, you would be wondering, What have I possibly done wrong? That is not the way that any of them reacted because they knew.

Flourishing through love! We moved to Bristol after the first lockdown ended and youngest was in first year of secondary school, not ideal. The place they ended up had “find ways to help others” as one of its values - not just “be kind”, actively look for opportunities to help others.

Couldn’t get a greater contrast than people pretending they didn’t notice, didn’t hear, that it’s too difficult and too awkward and we’re all just trying to have a nice lunch and can’t you just, you know, not be racially targeted for once so we can just relax and enjoy ourselves?

It is a deep protective instinct that seems to override everything which is why my feelings for antifa and others who put themselves in harm’s way is never not mixed with shock that they would do this for us. They are doing it for us. When I was less ancient, we were together doing it for us.

It doesn’t take any effort whatsoever to get white people to be ok with racism, just the suggestion of mild social awkwardness or inconvenience to the in-group and they’ll blind each of their eyes
