Telling an old straight white man why I don’t want to go into a hateful space is frustrating. It’s always “who cares what people think” but when people make physical threats and constantly say slurs in that space then that isn’t fun. I’m tired of always having to “fight back”

Bike/pedestrian networks don't take 30 years to build. Stop accepting those timelines in your community. The best practices have been proven & they already exist. Safety should already be the #1 priority. The ROI is unbeatable. The timeline is a moral document and it shouldn't be generational.

Bachardy became renowned for his intimate portrait drawings, capturing writers, artists, actors & friends with remarkable simplicity. His relationship with Isherwood also inspired David Hockney’s famous 1968 double portrait of the couple, painted in the home they shared.
A portrait of the 2 at home by David Hockney. Christopher Isherwood wrote several celebrated novels, memoirs, and plays that capture 1930s Berlin, mid-century Southern California, and his own life. His book, Goodbye to Berlin (1939) was semi-autobiographical portrait of 1930s Berlin that inspired the musical and film Cabaret.

People are arguing between road design and enforcement. In the Netherlands, not only do they have both, but they have a third tool: presumed liability. Drivers who hit a pedestrian or cyclist are presumed to be at fault until proven otherwise. This would be a powerful tool in our litigious society.

I really do think drunk driving is the best metaphor for the United States right now. Most individual incidents of drunk driving don't kill anyone, if you drive drunk every day, you're bound to kill someone, and "but I wasn't in my right mind" doesn't make getting hit by a truck not hurt like hell.

As someone with asthma living in one of these affected areas, I am begging you to wear a mask if you'll be outdoors for any length of time.
Protect Yourself from Wildfire Smoke, a guide from the CDC. Staying inside away from smoke is best. If you just go outside, wear a snug respirator or mask to help filter smoke.

A chart below lists five different types of masks for use, with N95 or P100 respirators and K95 respirators rated as the most effective, surgical masks listed as moderately effective, and cloth masks and scarves listed as not very effective.

Respirators should not be used for children under 2.
