whenever we get close to seeing a systemic problem with policing, media rushes to frame it as a training problem. however, police culture is at the core of its mistreatment of victims and rape cases. policing is a tool of white supremacy AND *male* supremacy

It is for the same reason that you DO apply as much pressure as you can (within the boundaries set by the victim) on the abuser. To effect the power imbalance. The person who exerts the control is the problem to be addressed, not the victim or their choices.

The essence of an abusive relationship is entrapment. The abuser’s coercive control (in tandem with structural oppression) makes it so their victim *cannot* leave. This is why you DON’T shame victims for “staying,” you give them access to as many resources as you can. To effect the power imbalance.

The people who need to be pressured to leave relationships are abusers, not the victims who they entrap. The main message shouldn’t be “leave relationships that are controlling” (which focuses on a victim’s behavior) but “leave relationships you can’t maintain without being controlling.”

genderqueer here. but I remember being 10 years old and standing outside of the hair braiding salon with my mom. a man driving past cat called me. I was wearing shorts and a t-shirt because it was a hot summer day. I gradually stopped wearing shorts. save for twice in college, I haven't since

the horrific cornell gang rape case has me thinking about emma sulkowicz who alleged she was raped as a student at columbia in 2014 and never got any justice. it has me thinking about the physical and mental weight young women are forced to carry while their safety is subsumed by male potential.

Also. The “tools” are NOT available. They are restricted by age, comorbidities, fees etc. It’s no good just having them exist in the same universe. People need to be able to access them.

this engine of disease spread will do what it does early in the outbreak of any illness… staff and visitors… discharged patients… will carry the killer variant straight back to their homes… including aged care, group homes, hostels, barracks, prisons etc.

To be fair… I think what they are trying to say is that the hazard a hospital poses to the community is not a worry because the community is already stuffed full of disease and some non sterilising immunity… Which is not ideal.

Another goal of the covid conscious lesbian bar hit piece is to make disease mitigations a basis for mockery and social ostracization So that when the next plague/mass disabling event happens (and more are coming), the "surplus" population will die off that much faster and quieter

Same thing with white feminists who love to go "kill all men" They'd mostly be targeting Black and brown men, as well as a number of Black and brown transmasculine people too Their white fathers, brothers, priests, coaches etc who actually harmed them would be just fine for the most part

Medicaid leaders in Pennsylvania & North Carolina have confirmed that ME/CFS, Long COVID, MCAS, POTS, & hEDS are on their lists of conditions that may qualify for the medical frailty exemption—PA has included ME/CFS as a Tier 1 condition, meaning an ME/CFS diagnosis alone can establish eligibility.

And I really do think that's what most of our disabled comrades are complaining about, insofar as they are. Not that we haven't eliminated all health risks in our spaces but that we don't behave like this stuff matters for all of us as a movement...

*We're" the ones who force them into having to consider their health individually when we decline to think about it collectively, rather than working with our disabled comrades to make reasonable choices re: weighing risks. Something they have more experience with anyway!

And yeah when you put people in that position, you are only gonna hear from certain people. You aren't gonna hear from people who don't want to talk about their personal needs in an organizing context, they'll just be quiet and protect themselves. Which is a big loss.

i often think about how so much of the way black people communicate on the internet has been shaped by the way ALL social media platforms normalize anti-black violence, b/c many non-black people won't interrogate how myths of black inferiority shape how they "misunderstand" things black people say

All of these can be perpetrated by anyone anywhere along the political spectrum. It’s the hearing parents who refuse to learn sign language and put their deaf kids in for cochlear implants before they can consent. It’s shaming patients for how much they weigh. It’s medical racism.
