Trans March is always my favourite part of Pride weekend. It reminds me of Pride’s political, scrappy roots. And standing up for trans rights couldn’t be more important in this political moment. Proud of everyone who rallied and marched tonight. Queer and trans joy is revolutionary.

When the Ford government announced that it was forcing the Somerset West Community Health Centre to close its supervised consumption site, they quoted unsourced stats about local crime rates. They lied. Crime actually went down significantly when the CTS was open.

We're disturbed by the numerous deaths of pedestrians and cyclists in Ottawa recently. It's time for action. We're garnering support for prohibiting all vehicular turns on red in downtown, for starters, and making this standard for protected intersections. www.ecologyottawa.ca/rtor_campaign

Look at this cutie patootie I saw parked at Merivale Mall! Mini trucks offer the same bed storage as larger vehicles at a fraction of the cost, and are much safer for vulnerable road users in case of collision. And the driver is 6’2! Would you like to see more of these on #collegeward roads?

The Centretown Community Association has sent a letter on the draft Transportation Master Plan not meeting the needs of urban residents. "It will make the lives of those who live and work here less affordable, less accessible, and less safe." @mayormarksutcliffe.bsky.social @arieltroster.com
Dear Mayor Sutcliffe,

We are disappointed with the projects outlined in the most recent update of the draft Transportation Master Plan and believe it will make Centretown residents worse off. It will make the lives of those who live and work here less affordable, less accessible, and less safe.
Centretown is not a parking lot or throughway for commuter traffic. It is a thriving community that deserves the same respect, investment, and access to amenities as any other neighbourhood in Ottawa. The current plan fails to support this, and instead proposes:
More traffic and reduced safety for residents
Higher costs and a growing maintenance backlog
No clear solutions for the failures of the last master plan
The plan projects nearly 10,000 additional cars into downtown and inner urban areas every morning by 2046. This will worsen congestion, increase dangerous conflicts on our streets, and make it harder for people to walk, cycle, or use transit. Despite this, the plan continues to prioritize expensive road expansions-like the Airport Parkway and Albion Road-while existing roads in Centretown are already riddled with potholes and safety hazards.
Ottawa is struggling to keep up with basic road and transit maintenance. Hundreds of OC Transpo bus trips are missed each week due to a maintenance backlog and increased congestion, while road repairs fall further behind every year. Adding new and widened roads will only make the maintenance backlog worse and divert funds from essential city services.
The previous Transportation Master Plan failed to deliver on its promises: transit ridership is below expectations, and sustainable mode share goals have not been met. This draft does not explain why those targets were missed or what will be done differently this time. Instead, it repeats the same approach.
We believe Centretown residents deserve a neighbourhood where children can get to school safely without crossing multiple dangerous, high-speed arterial roads; where everyone can…own a car; and where our public spaces aren’t sacrificed to serve as parking lots for traffic from other neighbourhoods.
We urge Council to update the plan so it truly supports the needs of Centretown: maintain our existing infrastructure, invest in reliable transit and active transportation, and recognize that Centretown is not just a corridor for commuters.
The current plan reads like an answer to the question, “How do we get as many cars in and out of Centretown as quickly as possible?” We ask a different question: “How will the City prioritize the hours outside of peak commuting, while wide, high-speed roads sit empty and our neighbourhood remains underserved?” Centretown deserves a plan that puts residents first, not just the convenience of those passing through.
Thank you,
Rob Dekker
 CCA President

Ottawa's city council may be poised to pass an overreaching, subjective and possibly unconstitutional "bubble zone" by-law. This Star article explores Toronto's far less problematic approach. Read the story today online at the OPL if you don't subscribe.

Toronto shares long-awaited details of proposed ‘bubble zone’ bylaw aimed at limiting protests near places of worship
The city manager has released details of a bylaw that would limit protests in so-called bubble zones, although they would be temporary and much smaller than those found in other cities.

But the choice cannot be to essentially give up on one's labor by substituting automation. This technology does not do what humans do, even if it can produce human-like outputs. That shit's fine for business where efficiency is paramount. We're talking about learning, though, which is different.

The New York Times this morning in an article published some of the traffic changes since the city introduced congestion pricing. There are a variety of tools to reduce downtown congestion; we need to be cognizant that great transit underpins them all. We can go from there...

Managerial experience. Knowledge. Most mayors, premiers, PM, are smart, but have zero managerial experience, including Trudeau; Carney is very different. A Prime Minister must have experience managing people, finances, making difficult decisions, fast. Review their experience. Then vote.

Fact check: The new fundraising email from Pierre Poilievre is, in fact, a conspiracy theory. While it's true that Mark Carney adviser Mark Wiseman backs this initiative, it is NOT Mark Carney's "real agenda." He has promised to keep immigration caps in place.
Email from Team Pierre, with the subject line "they don't want this public" reads:

"Hey Friend, this is NOT a conspiracy theory.

This is Mark Carney’s REAL agenda.

They don’t want you to know this. But we’re giving you an unfiltered truth bomb.

Mark Wiseman, co-founder of the Century Initiative, is also an advisor to Mark Carney.

The Century Initiative is a radical and DANGEROUS idea for Canada.

Mark Carney’s advisor is openly pushing to increase Canada’s population to 100 million people.

Here’s the truth that we uncovered for you:

This radical idea will lead to a crippling doctor shortage, devastating housing and food shortages, and will massively strain Canada’s infrastructure and social services.

It will be worse than anything we’ve ever seen before."
