I know it may not feel it - because well... winter - but winter this year really have been crazy hot in the south east. Charts for Melbourne, Sydney and Hobart below. And it's only likely to get hotter from here, but for the rest of this year and for the rest of the century.

The media now started calling Beirut's southern suburbs a "Hezbollah stronghold." Dahiyeh is a densely populated part of a capital city. Striking entire civilian neighborhoods is not counterterrorism. It's a war crime.

This AFR editorial might be the most ignorant thing I’ve read for a long while. Pure bullshit fantasy. Written by a paper desperate to simp for rich people rather than defend democracy.
Billionaire barons have every right to use their money to influence us
Sitting atop a $39 billion iron ore fortune and the AFR Rich List for seven consecutive years, Gina Rinehart is a prime example of a local billionaire who is building a network of influence and patronage. But the extreme arguments against the Rineharts of this world ignore the reality that the organisations are also guided by the desires of the audience.
Moreover, Australia is relatively well served by a wide array of private and publicly funded digital media organisations whose worldviews span the political spectrum.
In the digital age, consumers have never had (for better or worse) more diversified sources of information to tap into. (A possible exception to this is Perth and some regional areas where there is a greater concentration of ownership).

It’s true that wealth can buy you a megaphone. But ultimately, in a free society, ideas win when they resonate with the values, needs and experiences of ordinary people.
If a billionaire pushes a perspective that is out of touch with the majority, the marketplace of ideas will eventually filter it out

Handy guide for reporters … A claim is made about the impact of tax policy. Test: is it true (you find out). If yes: you have a story. If no: it isn’t a story. Reporting government denial of something that isn’t real … that’s also not a story.

Bit worrying that a state premier does not understand how income tax works.
Mr Minns said the current top marginal tax rate of 47 per cent – including the two per cent Medicare Levy – meant Australians were working half the week for the government.

“You’re working Monday, Tuesday and half of Wednesday for yourself, then Wednesday Thursday and Friday for the government,” Mr Minns said.

The top marginal tax rate applies to those earning incomes over $190,001 across Australia’s states and territories.
