For any UK based comic book readers, Worst Man, the new graphic novel by Discworld Order podcast guests @brandtandstein.com , is out now. I'm looking forwards to getting my hands on a copy.

The cover of Worst Man by Ted Brandt & Ro Stein.
It features a bemused man sat on a rather large wedding cake. On his lap is a relaxed and confident red headed man in a red suit.

I think it is an easy top 10 Discworld novel for me. It felt like Pratchett was so assured that he was almost showboating with how many different things he was trying to achieve in 1 book. It's also the best watch novel in terms of giving everyone character an arc or something to do.

Do you need something to listen to while chilling out or doing household jobs? How about a Discworld podcast where Adrian Tchaikovsky discusses Terry Pratchett's Feet of Clay? Discworld Order episode 18 is found on all podcast apps & talks about World building and Artificial Intelligence.

Three books on a beige carpet:
The left book is black with the edge of a green planet in the top left corner. It is Adrian Tchaikovsly's Children of Time.
The middle book is the original hardback of Terry Pratchett's Feet of Clay. The top and botton thirds are dark green with large text. The middle third is a very busy Josh Kirby image.
The right book is Adrian Tchaikovsky's House of Open Wounds. Its a very busy cover with black, sliver greay and orange. One of the many images is a stegasaurus with a howdah on the back.

I've been very lucky to have a few published authors join me on Discworl Order. @jensugden.bsky.social , co creator of Victoriocity and co author of High Vaultage, talked about the 1st Discworld novel that she read: Maskerade.

Two paperback books on a slightly unkempt beige carpet (I probably need to find a better background ;) ).

On the left is High Vaultage by Chris & Jen Sugden. It's black with art deco electric blue & pink lines and mirrored images of a London sky line in the same colours.

On the right its Maskerade by Terry Pratchett. It is the original Josh Kirby cover and it contains multiple opera singers, an orchestra, a lot of fancy interior architecture, a witch and a very short man with a helmet and an axe. The lack of beard and context suggests that is Nobby Nobbs. This angle of the cover does not show the troll playing a tuba.

Great stuff. Of course, my favourite riff on the glass half full/half empty is this bit from Terry Pratchett's The Truth:

In Equal Rites, there is a throw away bit at the end where ants in Unseen University build a sugar cube pyramid. I thought it was just Pratchett being Pratchett. Well, I've just found out that there is a species of ant called the Pharoah Ant...

Reading a listicle on novels from the 2000's, and while it lists Night Watch as number 2, I'm baffled as to why it highlights Lord Winder as a "truly colourful character".

I mean, it's a mix of finding people who would be interested in talking on the podcast, and getting the impression that not a lot of people talk about The Last Hero. I always thought that it was one that people skipped. Maybe I was wrong on about that.

Terry was unabashedly UK-oriented (having been born and bred in that thoughtstyle). He knew his strength, and wasn't going to subvert it for the sake of a different market. The US film market tried to get him to change for the US market, and Terry (rightly) blew them off. Lose DEATH? *Seriously?*

I just spotted the new UK Discworld paperback editions in the wild. I'm loving the silhouette on the spine.

A bookshelf in a book shop. All the books are covers forward. 3 of the books ar Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment.

A hand holding a paperback copy of Terry Pratchett's Monstrous Regiment side on.
The spine is blue and there is a Silhouette of Pratchett between his name and the book's title.

Discworld QOTD, from Going Postal

“I believe you may be thinking about the ‘Agatean Wall,’” said Mr. Slant smoothly. “This carefully and successfully ensures that there will be no breach of confidentiality should, for example, one part of an organization come into possession of privileged information which could conceivably be used by another department for unethical gain.”
“This is fascinating! How does it work, exactly?” said Vetinari.
“People agree not to do it,” said Mr. Slant.
“I’m sorry? I thought you said there is a wall—” said Vetinari.
“That’s just a name, my lord. For agreeing not to do it.”
“Ah? And they do? How wonderful. Even though in this case the invisible wall must pass through the middle of their brains?”

Mortedant's Peril had that combination of mystery + grumpy lead + humour + class consciousness that I associate with the Watch novels. Although I still probably prefer the Tide Child trilogy but then again, that has the Gullaime.

Clockwise from top left they are:
The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri

Depends on what they want to do. This is a charity that wants to get people reading more. A book about football probably feels like the angle that is behind the choice to use UA.

It depends on what the logic was. The donation is to support a campaign designed to make people read more. While Monsterous Regiment is in my top 5 discworld novels, I think the "its a book about football" angle might be seen as a useful hook to tempt football loving non readers.

Transworld donated 10,000 copies of Unseen Academicals. Which feels like a very deliberate choice as the book, at its heart, is about characters growing and becoming more successful by embracing new things or by reading.

An excerpt from a Facebook page for The Bookseller amagazine.
The geadline reads "Transworld donates 10k Terry Pratchett books to National Literery Trust".

The 10,000 books are copies of Unseen Academicals.

So I finally visited the Uffington White Horse after saying that Ive wanted to go for years. Its best seen from a bit further away, but I brought something as a bit of a context clue.

A photo of white chalk carvings on a green grass covered hill, underneath a blue sky with fluffy white clouds.
The carving is meant to be the image of a horse, but the angle doesn't make that very clear.
In the foreground is a UK hardback copy of Terry Pratchett's A Hat Full of Sky. A book that also features a white chalk horse carving on a hillside

The Uffington White Horse: A white chalk carving of a horse on an undulating green grass hillside under a cloudy sky.

Is the change in Sam Vimes between Jingo and The Fifth Element the greatest leap in his development? Maybe. @tansyrr.bsky.social explores Vimes in his middle three books in this new essay, at www.speculativeinsight.com Free to read - tell your #Pratchett loving friends!

Purple background, white text, which says In Jingo, Vimes finds helpful parallels between the expected roles of a nobleman in wartime, and a police captain keeping the peace; The Fifth Element leads him to grudgingly accept and even relish the role of diplomat once he is able to do so on his own terms. I think it's the start of Vimes' anger & Vimes the family man becoming more core parts of his psyche while also embracing what his position allows him to do. It also helps that its the book where Pratchett remembers to give Sybil more time and agency
