I know selling hand-painted artisan dolls from a gallery is a different audience & business model to selling books on the internet, but every time I press my mother to raise the prices on her beautiful artworks, SALES INCREASE. I don't know who needed to hear that today but I presume most of you.

@tansyrr.bsky.social made mention of a dragon bonnet the other day - my brain went "dragon fruit bonnet". The thought continued to rattle around in my gourd until just now. If I didn't have fatbatweek just starting I'd start w "fruithat friday" this month... maybe in November.

I'm sure there's a long list of regulations that should be brought in to keep AI in check, but how is it even legal to sell AI generated content when you don't/can't own the copyright? What do those contracts LOOK like?

My most controversial literary headcanon is that Elizabeth Bennet should be blonde, because I saw Greer Garson's version of Pride & Prejudice (in B&W) at an impressionable age. My most controversial Hollywood headcanon is that Greer Garson is also blonde. Same reason.

My latest books cartoon for @theguardian.com
Hercule Poirot dressed all in black speaks to Captain Hastings in a grand hallway “Please ask the suspects to gather in the library, Hastings: I wish to reveal that our births are random, our lives meaningless, and our deaths absurd.”

Caption “Having investigated so many awful murders over the years, it was perhaps unsurprising that Hercule Poirot turned to Existentialism”

p.s. Poirot had presumably been reading a lot of Sartre recently…

"It is meaningless that we live and it is meaningless that we die," Jean-Paul Sartre, Being and Nothingness (L'Être et le Néant)

“Every existing thing is born without reason, prolongs itself out of weakness, and dies by chance.” Jean-Paul Sartre, Nausea (La Nausée)

By far the worst thing that could happen to a gentleman of good family is to come into his fortune at the age of two-and-twenty. Why, a man of such recent vintage has barely begun forming his character, and now he shall never have to.

Honestly, rewatching 1970s Doctor Who is a TRIP in this year of 2026. If it's not hippies earnestly explaining how the time to deal with climate crisis & world hunger is NOW, then its tech stories pointing out that AI will definitely try to destroy humanity if you don't add an ethics clause.

I don't care what anyone says, the dinosaur effects in Doctor Who: Invasion of the Dinosaurs are ADORABLE AND ICONIC and they make me smile every time they are on screen. People made that happen. They built dinosaurs & made them growl and stomp and bite each other. They're cute as hell.

A little Roman bronze dog affectionately known as the ‘Chesters Scottie dog’ 🐾 This lovely figurine was found at Chesters Roman fort on Hadrian’s Wall. You can meet this good boy at the site museum! 📷 English Heritage www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places... #RomanFortThursday #Archaeology
This English Heritage photo shows a small Roman copper alloy (bronze) figurine of a standing dog shown in profile facing right on a pale museum background. It has pointed ears, a short curled tail, and a broad, sturdy body. The surface is textured to suggest the dog’s coat which is now aged to dark brown with some greenish areas of patina. It resembles a Scottish Terrier. The figurine is dated 2nd to 3rd century AD.
