I confess, despite loving everything Christine does, when I saw this title, I thought it would be "just another". I'd even posit it's because of the reasons she espouses within her post! It's not. It's short, it's moving, please read it. dustycloud.org/blog/what-ha...

There is exactly one good excuse for being a billionaire. You inherited and/or stole the money and are actively in the process of redistributing the product of exploitation to those exploited.

Hey @archive.org, I've gotten to hate crawlers to the point where I want to block *all* of them — except the Wayback machine. What IP ranges do the crawlers use, and is it possible for individual sites to forbid accessing the history of their sites through the WBM API? I saw something about that...

The reason my website's robots.txt is a full wildcard, is because I'm not proud of the current state of it, and there's really nothing there right now. That's completely different from not wanting the unwashed masses to be able to read your "sophisticated content" without a paywall.

Just registered to vote with @cagreens.bsky.social. Anythings better than voting Democrat — especially given Sean Dougherty running for the House. Of course, this is assuming I'm still allowed to exist for the next four years.

Got a brush pen and disposable fountain pen from @jetpens.com — turns out I like the fountain pen! Probably going to get a LAMY safari in my next order? The brush is for writing 한글, but it's much much harder to control. The fountain pen is too. Time to work on my handwriting!

Made a pumpkin cake with blackberry mascarpone frosting! It's really delicious; I took the recipes from different places and I'll put it on my website... eventually. #CakeSky 🍰

Uncut 9" round 3 layer pumpkin cake covered with sheer blackberry mascarpone frosting. I put a lot of effort into making it smooth and nice looking. There are pumpkin frosting shells around the base, and little frosted pumpkins decorated with mini chocolate chips as the tiny stem. There are 14 blackberries with their stems facing the cake placed somewhat evenly around the top edge. The cake is on a table outside with lavender and salvia bushes encroaching on the path in the background.

The reason this is important is because Bluesky PBLLC is explicitly stating that anyone can host their own copy of their infrastructure, interoperable with theirs, just without their truly awful moderation.

Trying out Zettelkasten-ish. I'll keep a pen and index cards on hand throughout my day and I'll write if I have any striking thoughts. When it's a notebook it feels scarily permanent, but an index card? I could totally toss it if I don't like what I write! @vhbelvadi.com wrote an excellent article!

Learning Esperanto from Duolingo, and its kind of cute but infuriatingly slow... It also doesn't explain very much grammatically. Most of my mistakes are due to my lack of understanding of the grammar (which is pretty flexible, but it does change affixes) The exercises are identical, no variation.

a lot of modern use of language focuses on reductionism. stripping everything out, especially emotions. so when i overshare, people can "misunderstand" me. not through their fault, and not entirely through mine, either: when im excited to share something, i dont really think about the language i use
