Yes, it’s shitting me as well. Worst “insight” in the article is the guy who doesn’t see any benefit to the change, but also doesn’t want to handle cash as it’s “just a hassle”. Whinging morons the lot of them!

Yes, Tuscani Beverages are claiming it can’t be our vodka, someone else must be counterfeiting it. However note that the ABC is not reporting any obvious follow up statement one would expect, e.g., “We are urgently testing our product to confirm that.”

Even weirder is response from distributer Tuscani Beverages: it can’t be our vodka, someone else must be counterfeiting it. No statement that “we are urgently testing our product to confirm that.”

Weird response from IGA: essentially, it’s not our fault. No statement about removing it from sale.

That aside, the real solution is just for per km charging to replace fuel excise entirely, rather than try to come up with some frankenstein combination of the two. And there are also arguments for subsidising EVs with a lower per km charge, at least for an interim period.

I got halfway though without any clarity on the plan or the numbers. My best guess is that NSW plans to charge hybrid owners partly directly, and partly via fuel exercise. But has this been calculated fairly? I couldn't tell from this video.

“base load supply” (e.g., from coal) is obsolete. It used to be an advantage, but the explosion of renewables (especially solar) has reversed the economics so that base-load supply is now a liability. Renewables plus storage can meet all needs and is the cheapest option.

Even if the efficiency project is successful you’ve still created a massive resource gap. More likely, the efficiency project is a partial or total failure, and you’ve created an even worse problem.

I’ve seen this kind of thing first-hand from “business idiots” (as @edzitron.com calls them). 1. Start an efficiency project. 2. Long before any project deliverables are realised, sack all the people you assume will eventually no longer be required.

Several interviews with "business people" along the lines "Good idea, but ... it makes cash-flow management more difficult". Translation: "I may have to rely more on my own money instead of borrowing interest-free and consent-free from my employees". Yeah, I think they should shut-up about that.

Maybe, instead of just being a stenographer for Trump’s self-evident bullshit, @cnn.com could have tried to get a statement from “law enforcement” about the supposed “investigation”?

When Clinton had a sexual affair with a White House intern inside the building, the White House press corps took it as a personal insult. Meanwhile, Trump has repeatedly defiled the White House and Washington in much uglier ways and attacked journalists directly and they can't stop kissing his ass.
1. THIS IS THEIR HOME. This is where they spend their lives, raise their families, participate in community activities, take pride in their surroundings. They feel Washington has been brought into disrepute by the actions of the president.
"It's much more personal here," says pollster Geoff Garin. "This is an affront to their world. It affects the dignity of the place where they live and work. . . . Clinton's behavior is unacceptable. If they did this at the local Elks Club hall in some other community it would be a big cause for concern."
"He came in here and he trashed the place," says Washington Post columnist David Broder, "and it's not his place."

So what’s going on here? I have a theory. “Trump has been pestering us non-stop to prosecute Carroll, but we told him that would be even more stupid than the failed prosecutions of James and Comey, and make us look even more corrupt than we already were. Anyway, we haven’t given-in to Trump, yet.”

So it would include, for example, people who were off work all year on Workcover, and at the other extreme all the people who took one day of sick leave all year. In other words, a completely meaningless number!

That stupid article has no explanation of what the “eight million” number means. Is it the average number of people on income support at any one time? Is it the number of people who were off work for any amount of time last year? Something else?

Even more insane is the assumption that the mere presence of a detention centre is somehow a punishment for people who live nearby. Reform’s bigotry makes them hate the idea of nearby “illegals” (even when incarcerated), and their stupidity makes them assume everyone else would feel the same.

People are free to say they oppose Acknowledgements of, or Welcome to, Country, thereby identifying as dull & amateur drama queens. They're not free to disrupt solemn public commemoration ceremonies with racist heckling. That's called disturbing the peace & being a fully-assembled, arrestible tool.

That might be valid if “Country” just meant “the local area”. But even that is not accurate. “Country” means the cultural and spiritual connection of first nation peoples with the land and “Welcome to Country” is an acknowledgement of this age-old tradition and an invitation to share in it.

To be fair to Pink Floyd, that album is not really about “dark side of the moon”, or science. In fact, the only reference to the title is an audio vérité disclaimer at the end: “There is no dark side in the moon really. Matter of fact it’s all dark.” Which should clear up any confusion. 😀

Dark side ≠ far side. The far side receives just as much sunlight as the side that faces us. The Dark Side of the Moon is an album by Pink Floyd. Otherwise, it is a transient thing.

I’m not following how this would work. The fact that a submarine could weigh “18000 tons” is surely irrelevant. The detector would respond to density anomalies, e.g., the difference between the mass of the submarine and the mass of the displaced water, but this is zero for a cruising submarine.

What's worst about this is that it wasn't just a simple accident, absently writing "America" instead of "Atlantic". The whole sense of the headline requires them to have actually believed that is what "NATO" stands for, which demonstrates a grotesque* level of Americentrism. [*Quelle surprise]
