Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 2hOh man. Come to California. Amazing shelters. All the time. It never ends. I will also say rescue groups will often pay for supplies to foster which safes so many lives. 010
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 2hActually so many shelters are over capacity that adoptions are frequently free or low cost. 010

Ferrari here was even at a local Petsmart for four weeks and not a single application for her 😭 if you’re nearish Elkton, MD, check out our cats: bit.ly/4cOmi21 0157
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 3hOh yes. With dogs, more often backyard breeders who just don’t care. Cats more likely oopsie pregnancies or my kids thought having kittens would be fun. 000

Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 4hSo many shelters are over capacity they have nearly no or totally free adoption fees. 010
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 4hOh no I just mean people don’t want to say they’re dumping a dog because the want a cat so they say he’s anxious etc. 100
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 4hamazing. I really think they know and appreciate it. Surrendered animals especially. 020
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 4hLocal rescues might be able to point you to a dog that would be a good fit. A dog who's been in foster with other dogs is a great possibility too. Sadly, sometimes the person surrendering the dog says they have issues so they have an excuse. Assessments are important. Thanks for considering it! 120

Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hEVERYONE in CA is over capacity and OAS is one of the best at networking and foster connections. In some of the shelters down south, they're seeing maybe one dog out of four get out alive, cats are even worse. It's the stuff of nightmares. 030
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hLook how people step up. I'm in awe. There is so much good out there. ⬇️ 181

Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hTwigg! I've been seeing so many Cane Corsos dumped at California shelters recently. Forever it was just pitts and shepherds and suddenly it's everything...frenchies, mastiffs, labs, goldens. so out of hand. 060
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hOh there are so many reasons right now... wages, housing insecurity, deportations, illness. Not to mention the assholes who dump dogs because they are moving, traveling, having a baby, they got too big etc. It's awful. Thank you for saving these guys! 160
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hamen. we lost our 14 year old cat John to a coyote. NEVER again. Do you follow @missybbbobtail.bsky.social ? Home of a most glorious cat named Jinx too! 191
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hYES! Fostering is one of the single best, biggest things you can do to help. And sometimes they only need a few days or a week, so the shelter can pull them. A place to crash while the rescue puts a plan in place. Give it a try, if it isn't for you...it's great you tried! 060
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hoh love this. we brought home a flatcoat retriever who's family had lost their house. He was 8 and lived to be 15. amazing dog. 030
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hYes! And while strays often get a hold period, surrendered dogs can be killed immediately for space because their owners have relinquished their rights. They often are pts before the public even sees them. 8( 071
Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 5hSo many amazing people and furry friends here! It's nice to see all this love. My husband and I started a non-profit to help surrendered dogs, especially seniors. Dev Petty @devpetty.bsky.social · 8hA plea to all you wonderful folks who are thinking to adopt (not buy) a dog or cat… The shelters are FILLED with animals who’ve been surrendered.
