I'm inclined to treat the revised paper as an original submission tbh. Seems the most/best a reviewer can offer. Typically I'd expect an explanation as to why exactly I was invited. A tiebreaker? An expert of a specific aspect of the paper? It's odd that it's sent as a fresh new review.

Told them I won't read the previous set of reviews or responses to reviewers, given that's the editor's job to evaluate whether the revisions are sufficient.

Indeed I have just received and accepted a review request from a philosophy journal. Logged in to find out that I'm the fourth reviewer assigned after a first round revision. No explanation about why I was added midway and what exactly is expected from me.

... When Mecfs folks say they're tired and exhausted, that's actually going on is : 1. Hypercoagulation means blood doesn't reach the smaller blood vessels and muscles and organs dorn get enough blood to function. 2. Broken mitochondria (cell food->cell energy convertor organ) means less energy ..

Now this is the most important article I’ve ever written and I can’t believe I got away with it. It starts with a very simple and heartfelt question: what are we to do now that Helen De Cruz is gone? I propose that we should emulate the playfulness that animated their work. 🧵⬇️ #philsky #philtwit
“Drawings on the beach”, a drawing by Helen De Cruz, found on “helen de cruz portfolio Tumblr”. It depicts a person drawing elaborate patterns with a finger in the sand: the patterns amount to a big sea turtle, seen from above, with an ornate shell. The beach has the colours of a tropical beach (the tags on tumblr says: Vanuatu). The waves are beginning to erase the bottom of the turtle drawing.“ ‘Please imagine Helen with a smile’: philosophical playfulness and the legacy of Helen De Cruz” by Pierrick Simon, published in Philosophical Psychology https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09515089.2026.2742245

They're rare and unique, making it harder to fully understand for those lucky enough to not have experienced them. But maybe all the more important that we get a glimpse at what they can be like. Though ultimately what matters is that you do whatever makes you feel better (or at least not worse).

And such results get even less interpretable as you sum over vastly different literatures with incommensurate data generating processes, where the same replicability estimate may emerge for a variety of reasons. The responsible choice would be to stop reporting & interpreting replicability metrics.

Berna Devezer @devezer.bsky.social · 5h
It is wild that the estimates range from 29% to 75%, yet they focus on one to interpret. But I got good news: You don't have to think abt what this means bec no replicability metric calculated based on a yes (replicated)/no (didn't replicate) classification per study produces a reliable estimate.

New working paper of mass reproducibility in psychological science by Brodeur, Baki, & Fazio finds: “84% of preregistered articles deviate from their pre-analysis plan, and nearly half of these deviations go unacknowledged.” Open Access: www.econstor.eu/handle/10419...
Among the 50 preregistered reported articles, 42 (84%) deviated from the pre-analysis plan in at least one respect, and 8 (16%) did not. Of the 42 articles with deviations, 25 (59.5%) disclosed some or all of them, while 17 (40.5%) disclosed none. The most common form of deviation was implementing a different procedure in the paper from the preregistration, occurring in 57.143% of preregistered articles with deviations. The prevalence of these categories is summarized in Ta- ble 12. Deviations involving design or reporting scope were most frequent, occurring in 25 articles, followed by estimation or modeling choices, occurring in 23 articles. Deviations related to sample size/data collection and data exclusions/filtering were each identified in 12 article, while deviations concerning variable construction were prevalent in 10.

Just clicking around their OSF pages there are a number of weird inconsistencies, papers where they note that the replication is under-powered, then some findings within that paper are excluded due to low power, but others are included and marked as failing replication with no explanation I can find

Perhaps one should be neutral if one doesn't know much about how replications work or one is not an expert on this particular domain. I don't think knowledge and expertise demand neutrality.

Because this is my area of expertise and I've been publishing about this for years. I get to have a view, especially given none of the theoretical work that's being done so far is taken into account when designing such studies. I am quite realistic and I don't think it being an RR changes much.

Statistical power has been lionized in metascience. First, you care about statistical power only bec your whole scientific vision relies on the results of a hypothesis test. Get over it. Second, power can never make up for poor design, lack of theoretical understanding, or biased samples/measures.
