The last time I researched this, I discovered the timeline "sport is open to all; woman wins; sport is immediately closed off to women; women's league is eventually formed years later" is almost universal. Women's leagues were overwhelmingly created *strictly* to protect the egos of men.

Everything looks way too clean and generic, extremely far away from anything I imagined while reading. At the end of the day, this is my favourite book and I have an extremely vivid image of its world in my mind, so imposing this adaptation over something so personal is not something I want to do

I've seen this so many times about both obsidian and cdpr and it's always funny cause sometimes the "key talent" was actually someone who was important but other times it's some potatoman or someone actively detrimental to the project.

The new GITS is great, but I don't think it adds anything new. I personally think that an adaptation is more interesting if it's used as an oportunity to do something unique and different with the source material. Oshii's adaptations did this to the point of trascending the original.

I literally just re-read The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas and yeesh I think you hit it dead on. Le Guin’s writing has always felt this way to me – transposing myth and legend into the future, or an alternate present, specifically to target this idea of progress
