This is written to fly under the radar, from today’s Sunday Independent (Ireland). The press council upheld a complaint about an offensive and transphobic opinion column by Brenda Power. Sindo was required to publish the decision. @mams4transrights.bsky.social @jesalady.bsky.social
A half page article from the Sunday independent with the headline OMB2590 A woman and the Sunday independent.
The article outlines the complaint, the appeal and the decision.
The complaint relates to an opinion column deploring the fact that an unnamed td provided a character reference for a man convicted of sexual violence against children. A sentence in the column argued that this case threw light on the possibility that a man would “identify as a woman” in order to commit sexual violence.
The press council concluded that “a reference to a protected group [trans people] in this context should have been extremely carefully scrutinised”. It found that the Sunday independent was in violation of principle 8 of the press council code of practice.

@irishtimes.com There's a great piece today by Keith Duggan on Christa Pike that is every bit as depressing that you knew it would be. Please highlight this.

It's incredible how such an important organisation with huge bona fides fucked up their one job role with Russia and Ukraine. Now, anytime you'd like to quote their response on for example, Gaza, you go "actually, they are not quote worthy"

@theguardian.com I contribute to you more than I need in a monthly sub because we have to counter the billionaire press. But with that sub comes expectations of fairness and relevance. Freedom of the press is just that, we don't have the bandwidth for these kind of prejudices.

Multiple. Protect the trunk from the very strange people who insist on damaging anything of value. Stop people locking their bike to a tree which is easier to cut than a lock or fence with a battery angle grinder. Removal of a trip hazard for public liability policy.

Flea for sure is the first person that should come into anyone's head and it's amazing to scroll nearly to the end to find him. You want someone who revolutionised an instrument rather than just accompanying the drummer.

Film photography seems to be undergoing a bit of a revival, especially in younger people. If you are going to use film for your black and white photography then filters are essential. Here is a brief guide. www.ilfordphoto.com/colour-filte...

Colour filters can control how the colours in a scene are reproduced as greys in black and white photography. Find out about their different effects here.
