Pope Innocent III,who died in 1216, spoke of a certain kind of older man, who is "easily provoked", "will believe anything and question nothing", is "stingy and greedy" and "praises the good old days and hates the present." Reform UK's voter base has been knocking around for a very long time.

I used to be a European tour driver but the work has really dried up. It's so hard for bands to tour anymore, nobody can afford it, and the paperwork is insane. Every single thing has to go on the carnet - every sharpie, roll of gaffa, plectrum... Fuck Brexit.

Times report on BBC investigation into people-smuggling… Lots of talk of “losing” access to critical information. Rather than Johnson not bothering to secure it. And Farage wanting an even harder Brexit. The stubborn refusal to face the consequences of our own govt’s stupid choices has become absurd
Brexit lets people-smugglers move to UK
Matt Dathan - Home Affairs Editor

Extracts:

Immigration officers have blamed Brexit for allowing active peoplesmugglers with convictions in other European countries to enter the UK.

An investigation by the BBC found that one prominent smuggler who had been jailed for five years in France in 2016 had claimed asylum in the UK and was living in Leicestershire.

Lucy Moreton, the professional officer at the ISU union, which represents Border Force staff, said Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union had cut off access to databases for sharing criminal data. She said she was not surprised that convicted peoplesmugglers had been able to enter the UK undetected.

Moreton told the BBC Radio 4 Today programme: “Once we left the European Union we lost our ability to share what’s termed low-level data. We still have Interpol data but that is not this level of criminality.

“So ultimately, as long as you’ve not been fingerprinted in the UK before, the identity you give us when you arrive and give us your fingerprints — if you even give fingerprints — is going to be the only identity that we know you by.”

The most important criminal database that was lost after Brexit was the Schengen Information System (SIS II), which was used to get real-time information about the movements of criminals, missing persons and objects of interest. The UK lost access to 40,000 alerts about investigations in other European countries. The Interpol database shares information only on the most serious criminals.

The UK also lost access to the European Criminal Records Information System and the Europol Information System. It no longer has access to Eurodac, the fingerprinting system that shares biometric identities of all people who claim asylum in the EU.

Sir Keir Starmer has tried to restore access to these databases, but a deal has yet to be agreed. Britain now relies on bilateral agreements with countries to share criminal data.

"We Refugees" by Benjamin Zephaniah We can all be refugees Sometimes it only takes a day Sometimes it only takes a handshake Or a paper that is signed ... We can all be refugees Nobody is safe All it takes is a mad leader Or no rain to bring forth food
We Refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah

I come from a musical place
Where they shoot me for my song
And my brother has been tortured
By my brother in my land

I come from a beautiful place
Where they hate my shade of skin
They don't like the way I pray
And they ban free poetry

I come from a beautiful place
Where girls cannot go to school
There you are told what to believe
And even young boys must grow beards

I come from a great old forest
I think it is now a field
And the people I once knew
Are not there now

We can all be refugees
Nobody is safe
All it takes is a mad leader
Or no rain to bring forth food.

We can all be refugees
We can all be told to go
We can be hated by someone
For being someone
1/22/2
I come from a beautiful place
Where the valley floods each year
And each year the hurricane tells us
That we must keep moving on

I come from an ancient place
All my family were born there
And I would like to go there
But I really want to live

I come from a sunny, sandy place
Where tourists go to darken skin
And dealers like to sell guns there
I just can't tell you what's the price

I am told I have no country now
I am told I am a lie
I am told that modern history books
May forget my name

We can all be refugees
Sometimes it only takes a day
Sometimes it only takes a handshake
Or a paper that is signed

We all came from refugees
Nobody simply just appeared
Nobody's here without a struggle
And why should we live in fear
Of the weather or the troubles?
We all came here from somewhere

We Refugees by Benjamin Zephaniah

Absolutely not shocking. This is Reform. No idea how things work… what laws really mean… how they protect us… Just peddlers of prejudice. Puppets for whoever’s bought them. They don’t even find out what their party is about when they decide they want to be an MP. All of them unfit for office.
