me thinking about global heating accelerating faster than most predictions, as a dying economic system murders its way into oblivion and builds warehouses dedicated to increasing emissions

You know who else is a petty tyrant who doesn't exactly love elections? Lukashenko. Guess its only a matter of time before Trump launches a special military operation in Belarus... Right? Right??? Why one but not another?

A great day for Melbourne with the opening of the Metro Tunnel. Been a long wait but the benefits over the coming decades will be amazing 🚇🎉

Today's historic pic: Melbourne W5 class tram no 759 on a non-passenger-carrying run in Spencer Street, Melbourne, August 31, 1983. This section of Spencer Street north of Lonsdale Street carried no regular passenger routes at that time. Tram 759 was converted to an SW5 in 1985.
A Melbourne W5 class dropcentre tram in green and cream livery with three open doors in the centre section enclosed only by canvas blinds, heads away from us along a city street. The rear destination is displaying SPECIAL and a yellow supplementary board with the lettering NOT CARRYING PASSENGERS is hanging from the rear driver's cab. A large brick industrial building of brutalist design looms over the scene in the background with large lettering on it displaying THE AGE.

Wow check out this real picture of Sydney harbour that UTS used on their website trying to attract international students web.archive.org/web/20250616...
an utterly fucked generative AI image of sydney harbour, with the opera house on an entire island, lots of random boats and an unconcinving sunset in the background

I've been doing quite a few cross City FKN-NPT trips recently and it really irks me how unreliable the cross city component is. Third time in a week my "Frankston" train from footscray has terminated @ Flinders Street (with zero driver announcement I might add.) Real sloppy from MTM.

You know Im truly doing my best to avoid consuming and thinking about news coming out the USA at the moment. But the thing is, its not possible. Every corner you turn there's some story or comment on Trump/Musk/Ukraine etc. its unavoidable and I hate it. Our future is uncertain and it freaking sucks

PT is a public service and directly impacts our daily lives and therefore influences wellbeing. Some more accountability and transparency In the face of the public is a good thing.

Queensland Rail have been running commuter catch ups this year. Many UK rail operators also have "meet the manager" sessions. Doesn't happen in Melbourne - I think it should though. (If I'm right in saying we used to hold them but not anymore.)

A look around Central Station in Sydney, which has undergone some serious modernisation in recent years. Its absolutely stunning to put it simply. A really good place to start and end an intercity journey. Well done Sydney.

Had the displeasure of missing a 703 bus by mere seconds only to find the next service was over 20 minutes away. There's 4 buses per hour so theoretically should be every 15 minutes... But Ventura's timetable is so damn patchy that there's gaps up to 24 minutes. Really weakens a "premium" service.

Can you imagine that Twitter was once a place where millions of famous artists and musicians and athletes (and unfortunately journalists and politicians) and so on would just log onto for free and post every day all day off the dome the thoughts and details of their every day lives?

jackie chan was an australian construction worker for like two weeks. of course he acquired a nickname that he’s carried for the rest of his life
Screenshot from Wikipedia entry for Jackie Chan (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackie_Chan). Text as follows:

Chan joined his parents in Canberra, Australia in 1971, where he briefly attended Dickson College and worked as a construction worker.[30] A fellow builder named Jack took Chan under his wing, thus earning Chan the nickname of "Little Jack", later shortened to "Jackie", which has stuck with him ever since.[22]
