One of the key messages I carry is that we don't have to accept any of this. Sometimes I see opposition in the form of "Get in loser, you'll be left behind" and other times it's in the form of "It's all over the place, what do you mean you think you can opt out?" >>

That's funny because I feel the same way about smart and well-intentioned people falling for a scam being perpetrated by Silicon Valley guys who have done nothing but run scams that made them rich after the tech press told everyone that these guys were geniuses.

The problem isn’t that they’re moving past it—it’s that they’re trying to rehabilitate it. Would be better for everyone if people who don’t want to engage with the facts just talked about the play on the field and left it at that.

they say living well is the best revenge and that's true, but if we're all being honest seeing bad things happen to people you hate is also pretty high up on the list

And if someone does say a slur, it was a gamer word in the heat of the moment and they didn’t actually mean it.

At some point a people On Here adopted the position native to the post-CRM right that you could say astoundingly bigoted shit but as long as it didn’t have a Forbidden Word Of Power attached to it it was not only not bigotry but anyone cottoning on and condemning your bigotry was the REAL bigot

For reasons mysterious to me, Will Stancil is continuing his crash out about language used to describe LLMs, moving on from raning about "stochastic parrots" to picking up on this piece that @nannainie.bsky.social and I published earlier this summer: buttondown.com/maiht3k/arch... >>
