And the evening isn’t over yet. Music For Mallet Instruments, Voices and Organ plays the Steve Reich celebrations out. What a beautiful way to end this wonderful event.

I don’t think I’m ever going to get the appeal of pivoting to video for podcasts. I’ve been listening to podcasts for 20 years, and never once have I thought, my God, I need to SEE these people! I’m on a walk or doing the dishes, I don’t need video.

And hopefully, being in black and white, it will have avoided the “make it green” colour grading that afflicts some of SC’s 4k restorations.

Thanks for coming. Maybe next time they’ll give you the big room :) Was amazed the Tyneside Cinema hadn’t tried to get you for an event there but GCT is a lovely little venue.

As an ageing hifi nerd it was the first thing I thought of when reading the phrase “dust bug”. I then spent several seconds wondering if you knew and, of course, you’d done your homework. 👍

Anyway, it’s a bit of a hagiographic affair with no real jeopardy or tension. Despite that, it’s pretty watchable and nicely stitched together.

Saw the Oasis doc at the cinema as it was the film with the fewest viewers. It’s written by Stephen Knight, slight baffled as to what that entailed. Did he do the dialogue for Noel and Liam? Definitely the supporting characters needed a bit of fleshing out.

Agreed. Conversely, I’ve seen people claim that The Dam Busters and Hammer’s Dracula were shot for 1.33:1 and butchered for widescreen but actually watching the 1.33:1 versions just show a load of empty space at the top of the frame so they clearly weren’t.

Just Watch says it’s not available on any streaming services in the UK. As a Fox film, it would be on Disney Plus if it was anywhere. I think the Arrow UK blu-ray was part of a pre-Disney Fox deal so it’ll now be out of print as the licence wasn’t available to renew or extend.

Annoyingly it’s been out for years and there doesn’t seem to any rush to give all the films separate releases (Last Picture Show got one, not sure about any of the others).

Cinema double-bill of A Better Tomorrow II and Jason Statham in Mutiny. ABT II an absolute incomprehensible fever-dream of a script, probably the weakest Woo Chow / Yun-Fat effort but still ok. Mutiny a solid mid-tier Statham beat-em-up, needed better dialogue but pleasingly humanitarian (honest).
