I thought this guy was meant to be a TV nerd? I could name a dozen US shows aired by the BBC *before* Dallas off the top of my head

New favourite Dr Who fact: Desmond Llewelyn unsuccessfully auditioned for the role of Professor Parry in The Tomb Of The Cybermen, travelling all the way from Bexhill-on-Sea for a "chat" with Morris Barry. Just imagine him striding about on Telos with his big fucking sausage fingers. We were robbed.

Great chat about Threads, for which some of you may recall I made the somewhat misguided decision to livetweet during my first viewing. You live and you learn. Well, they didn't.

Farewell to Dame Esther Rantzen. Let's break out the Pernod, Ouzo, marmalade and salt, and drink to her memory. RIP.

Brand new Beavis and Butt-Head on the way. My heart is full.
B&B Season 12 will feature episodes called "Spanish-ish", "TSA-holes", "Stewart Moves In" and "Body Cam".

Rewind TV's approach to screening TV Burp has been refreshing, making full use of disclaimers rather than cutting controversial jokes and sketches wholesale, but I can't blame them for taking the scissors to last night's edition... yikes! IYKYK
A timeline comparing an original 2004 off-air recording of TV Burp to a 2026 repeat. 5 missing sections, around 71 seconds in total.

Sad to report the new Pulp concert film on MUBI features the double whammy of AI-slathered archive footage - check out that abomination below - and inexplicably auto-tuned vocals, for a singer whose entire vocal style is the polar opposite of auto-tune. Horrible. (There's a clip from Dr Who though.)

Really enjoying the Troughton era Doctor Who Production Diary. Had no idea that "The Paradise Of Death" started life in 1966, nor did I know Michael Craze (Ben Jackson) suceeded Olaf Pooley (Professor Stahlman) as lodger in the marital home of Michael Gough and Anneke Wills. THIS IS THE STUFF!
A picture of some text on a page. Go buy the book, it's incredible value for money.

Those bastards at Channel 4 have ruined my long running Frasier/Meglos time loop gag by leaving a two day gap between Goodnight Seattle Part 2 and The Good Son. Killjoys.
The current Channel 4 repeat run of Frasier ends Saturday at 10.05am. For two days. The song is ending, but the story never ends.

70 Up: The Victorians was a perfect example of how not to present archive TV. Heavily edited, horrible yellow text badly positioned, cack-handed AI restoration resulting in a distracting mixture of smeary eyelids and foreheads and pin sharp wrinkles and facial hair. Thankfully 70 Up is much better.

Would love to know how they decide what is and isn't likely to offend sensitive audiences in 2026. I've just watched a random episode with tea and there were jokes about bestiality, rape and one character calling the other a "bender". But a sketch *about* racism? Careful now...

Considering replacing my #DoctorWho The Collection Limited Edition Blu-rays with the Standard Editions in an effort to reclaim some valuable shelf space. Has anyone else done this and if so how easy did you find it to sell the LEs? Don't want the faff of trying to sell them individually. Decisions!

RIP Stephanie Cole OBE. Seemingly forever typecast to play ladies of a certain age and yet all those performances prove she was one of the most versatile, nuanced actresses in the business. She'll be missed.

Sometimes I wonder if I've accidentally slipped sideways into a parallel universe
BBC News feed on BBC Two, a few moments ago. Main headline along the bottom of the screen: "King: AI controls needed 'before it is all too late". To the side: "Ready for war? War may be coming - but are we psychologically prepared?". Video shows an AI generated image of a Neanderthal man with sharpened sticks.

What scene makes you emotional no matter how many times you've seen it?
June Edwards (Julie Walters) watches on as her husband is hand-cuffed and shown into a police car.Train robber Ronald "Buster" Edwards (Phil Collins) looks back at his wife, for whom he gave up his freedom and returned to England to face the music.June watches in distress......as the police depart, and she is alone once more. Julie Walters is bloody brilliant.

For anyone following the repeats, Red Dwarf V (Back To Reality) is on BBC2 tonight at 10pm. No sign of Series VI in the immediate future: next Thursday it's a rare and seemingly one-off repeat of That Mitchell And Webb Look (Series 1 Episode 3, for some reason). The whole lot's currently on iPlayer.
