I'm heartbroken to see this news of Dr. Raúl Pacheco Vega's passing. He was the model of personal and scholarly generosity, and I'm grateful that his spirit will live on in those he mentored, and that his voice will live on in the resources he produced and shared, but I'm so sad that he is gone.

It was an absolute privilege having Dr. Octavian Robinson @deafkilljoy.bsky.social come to our department to give a presentation on Crip Linguistics. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Looking forward to reading many more of his works soon to come 🔥

If you’re a nondeaf scholar who researches deaf people and signed languages, it’s important to be open about your positionality & to be open to critical feedback from deaf scholars and deaf community members. Think of feedback as care for more holistic & ethical research, not as gatekeeping 🐦 🐦

We've Got This. November 7, 2024 Statement from the Deaf Queer Resource Center.
image: white background with black text, DQRC’s logo at the top.
Text:
"Like many of you, we were in a state of shock and disbelief yesterday.
Let’s be real: our journey ahead will be filled with challenges, setbacks and heartbreak. But our community has faced worse before and come through stronger every time. We stand on the shoulders of our elders, who navigated even more hostile landscapes, who fought through isolation, discrimination, and barriers that many couldn’t fathom today. They showed us what it means to persevere, and they’ve passed down to us a legacy of resilience that no one can take away.

Today, we carry that strength within us. We’ve created support networks, friendships, and chosen families who lift us up in moments like these. Together, we are not just strong—we are unstoppable. Policies and laws may change, but they cannot erase our pride, silence us, or diminish the fierce love we hold for one another.

Every challenge is a call to come together, to lift one another, and to push forward with even more determination. Together, we will continue this journey toward the future we all deserve—one filled with love, equity, dignity, and justice for every member of our diverse communities.

The road may be tough, but remember: we are tougher. And together, we will create a future that reflects the beautiful, unstoppable force that is us."
