ICE cannot do what it’s doing without local law enforcement. They need their manpower and infrastructure. That means if you want to stop ICE you are going to have to confront police collaboration and police power. I’m sorry but progressive hopes of avoiding this conflict are a recipe for failure.

Absolutely bonkers that we stopped using the 1% framing because that's exactly the right lens for what's happening: a rise of civil rights movements vs fascism GLOBALLY. It's why the "this is not America" et cetera makes no sense. Because that 1% club identity trumps nationality, race, gender etc.

People have to be told explicitly what to do. People don't know what they should be doing (unpopular to say this in some quarters). Importantly people who want to lead also have trouble telling people what to do beyond voting and this is across political ideology.

Update: This is a climate disaster: what we now know is that a glacial collapse in the Nepal-Tibet border close to Langtang National Park in Nepal caused a 5.2-magnitude earthquake and flooded the Bhotekoshi River, killing hundreds of people and leaving thousands of people missing (counted so far).

ICE has fallen out of the headlines but July marked the largest number of migrant detentions ever on record. Five migrants have died in ICE custody in the last two months. It's also currently impossible to legally migrate to this country, as 100% of visa applications have been paused.

As a Himalayan person, I want to name the relief I feel to hear it called what it is. This is a climate disaster - a GLOF outburst worsened by hydropower dams - now happening with such regularity and growing intensity that we can count on at least one large one in the region every single year.
