The prosecutors there undoubtedly didn't want to have to deal with the First Amendment obstacle of trying to prove something was a true threat when it wasn't communicated in any way that the target might ever reasonably see it. An obstacle which will be an issue in the Lee County case.

The conversation with ChatGPT was evidence of mens rea, that he had intended to threaten her and was apparently disappointed that the threats were not having the desired effect, but the 836.10 charge was based on a rape threat he actually sent her directly.

The reporting on Darren Zhou's case here is not accurate. I was looking through the charging docs last week. He was reported to the FBI for interactions with ChatGPT, and that led to further investigation in which direct texts and phone calls to to the victim were uncovered, not just the LLM convo.

And a fully favorable decision for my client on this one. No way to know if the judge was predisposed to grant benefits or if she just didn't want to worry about the mess of an appeal the expert witness testimony would have generated, but good news either way.

That would be part of the goal of the tax though. Housing costs in general are out of control here. A lot of that is insurance costs, but home prices have also exploded the last 5 years or so. If you can chase off some of the seasonal only owners it lowers prices for locals.

Yeah. The elimination of regular property taxes alongside is silly. My city has basically had a hiring freeze in place ever since they proposed this amendment because they know if it passes they’d have to just fire them all again anyway. And all it saves me is $1,500 a year.

This was a pretty forgone conclusion when the case was filed. MN created a very sloppy, overbroad statute. Banning nonconsensual nude AI-fakes is an admirable goal, but the legislature rushed to *do something* without considering if the law was the right way to do it.
