Zero taxpayer dollars, 470-day delays: An easy GOP victory waits in the Senate
Railroad workers paid into their retirement system, but claims take 470 days. The Senate must approve the Railroad Retirement Board Stability Act to fix it.

Again, much of Pete Hegseth’s deal is the only skill his job demanded for a long time was keeping a trim figure to be conventionally pretty for stay-at-home moms watching daytime tv. His job was “be pretty,” but he knows that’s a girl job, so he’s deeply insecure and is trying to make it a boy job.

Having just rewatched it in the theater, as Cybertron intended, I can say with authority that The Transformers The Movie (1986) is a better film than any of the Michael Bay Transformers movies. Leonard Nimoy as Galvatron! A Weird Al song in the soundtrack! Thin and silly plot, but still better!

What use was it to bring the writer and activist Chanel Miller to campus in the spring just for fraternity brothers to scroll, bored, on their phones as she movingly shared her experience as Emily Doe, the victim of Brock Turner? As I wrote at the time, I was floored and dismayed as I sat in the audience with one of my brilliant undergraduates; we heard Miller’s shattering account of being sexually assaulted by Turner behind a dumpster at Stanford University after a fraternity party. Her talk was riveting, and there was so much to learn from it. And yet many of the male students who hailed predominantly from fraternities — 15 percent of each chapter was required to be in attendance — were so tuned out that Miller commented ruefully: “You know, this has been my hardest gig, because they didn’t turn down the house lights. I’m not sure how you professors do it, because it’s so hard looking out at this sea of mildly disgruntled faces. I mean, I’m sure you’re all very moved, but …,” Miller smiled. The implication being, it didn’t seem like it, from her angle.

This is a common lie from DHS press flacks. They claim that people who came through CBP One — who registered for an appointment through a government app, went to a port of entry, and were issued a grant of humanitarian parole by a CBP officer letting them enter — "entered illegally." Total nonsense.

so we just nearly started a war with china (a nuclear state) because of genAI use
The intelligence report, circulated across the US military this spring in the midst of the war with Iran, immediately set off alarm bells: A Chinese ship in the Middle East was transporting components of a nuclear weapons program.
The US military swung into action with plans to intercept the vessel, according to four sources familiar with the episode.
According to two of the sources, armed members of the US military were preparing to board the ship. Military planes were in the air, one of those sources and another source familiar with the incident said.
It was only just before the planned operation that officials dug deeper into the report put together by a special operations command analyst and found it had been generated with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) — and that a chatbot the analyst had used inaccurately identified the material the ship was carrying. CNN was not able to learn what the misidentified cargo was.
The report, according to one of the sources, was "entirely false." But it also "almost started a war," the source said. Any US operation against a Chinese vessel could have risked spiraling into an armed conflict between the two nations.

Fed. judge holds that the addition of a loyalty question—identify two Trump EOs that are important to the applicant and how they would implement them—to civil service job applications likely violates the APA bc it is contrary to the First Amendment. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
The plaintiffs are likely to succeed in showing that Question Three is neither related to an important government interest nor narrowly tailored to promote that interest.5 The defendants seem to proffer as the important interest at stake the government’s “discretion in administering its hiring and recruitment processes.” (Defs.’ Opp’n at 28.) It is true that, in some cases, an employee’s political “allegiance” may be a proper consideration where “the hiring authority can demonstrate that party affiliation is an appropriate requirement for the effective performance of the public office involved.” See Branti v. Finkel, 445 U.S. 507, 518–19 (1980). But that is not the case in the context of civil service positions because the CSRA expressly prohibits employment decisions made on

Folks, Trump's $5000 thing is dumb and transparent and whatnot. It's also never going to happen. But it isn't bribery. "Vote us into office and we'll do this policy thing you want" is the core of what political campaigns are. It would be a very bad idea to start criminalizing that.
