Just given lukomatico’s #AstroWizard a try on some old data. Very impressive Luke. I did get some strange results with the Graxpert step, but that could have just been a screen stretch issue so I didn’t apply it. #Astrophotography

The Dark Shark Nebula. 8 hours (over 2 nights) to capture the beast from the deep! Processed to reveal interstellar gas and dust in the northern constellation Cepheus, appearing as a shark-shaped silhouette against a star field. #astronomy #astrophotography @stormhour.com @photohour.bsky.social
The Dark Shark Nebula LDN 1235 is a dark/reflection nebula in Cepheus.

The Dark Shark is made from interstellar dust about 650 light years from us, so thick it hides most of the light from behind it.

Dark nebulae are extremely faint and this image was created from 2 nights of capture processed and sharpened with lots of saturation using a number of free apps.

I reprocessed my Splinter Galaxy supernova. A typical workflow processes stars separately from the galaxy so you don't over-expose them while bringing out details in the galaxy. What if one of the stars is a supernova? I made galaxy + SN and stars - SN images for this image. #astrophotography

The Rosette Nebula is an H II region located near one end of a giant molecular cloud in the Monoceros region of the Milky Way Galaxy. The open cluster NGC 2244 is closely associated with the nebulosity, the stars of the cluster having been formed from the nebula's matter.

M51 is approximately the diameter of 76,000 to 77,000 light-years, making it about 88% the size of the Milky Way.

Estimated at 160 billion solar masses, roughly 10.3% of our own galaxy's mass and contains roughly 100 billion stars. The Whirlpool Galaxy (also known as Messier 51a, M51a, or NGC 5194) is a classic grand-design spiral galaxy located approximately 23 to 31 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Canes Venatici.

It is famous for its distinct, face-on spiral structure and its ongoing gravitational interaction with the nearby dwarf galaxy NGC 5195.

A stareduced astrophotography image of the Pinwheel Galaxy (M101), a large face-on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Ursa Major. The galaxy features a bright, yellowish central core with prominent, sprawling spiral arms extending outward. These arms are filled with dark dust lanes, glowing reddish HII regions (star-forming areas), and bright blue clusters of young stars. The background is a deep, dark purple-black, peppered with sharp, colorful foreground stars from our own Milky Way. The processing shows smooth transitions and well-controlled noise, highlighting the intricate structural details of the galactic spiral.
