Beginning the day with a non-partisan talk at Aberdeen Hall on the importance of voting with 6th graders, then having conversations with voters in the Abbott St area, then voting, then 5pm mayoral debate (stream online), filming a GOTV with other candidates, and a climate town hall at Rustic Reel.

It's a busy first day of early voting! Make sure to get out there and exercise your democratic right (and responsibility) this election season. If you feel like waiting, you can tune in live to the mayoral debate today to better evaluate your options.

I think this editorial from Marshall Jones is a very good primer to what is going on in the Kelowna mayoral race. infonews.ca/news/7936080... It’s quietly one of the most interesting races in the Province. And IMO, the outcome isn’t going to be very close.

It’s only “value capture” if it comes from the Georgist region of land value taxation. Development fees and exactions are just sparkling housing taxes.

There’s a lot to be said for property tax being all land milliage, not improvements, but yes. Land Value Capture only exists from rationing the solution to artificial scarcity.

If you had to pick six people who over performed over the three debates, it would probably be: Kyle Thurnheer Dhial Kraft Csek Bellamy Then you add in the two trustees running, and the incumbents running, and McAlleese as a former Fed candidate and heavy door knocker. That’s the leading pack (13)

This outcome highlighted a recurring challenge for urban transformation: politicians and planners often hear most from those who oppose change, not necessarily from those who stand to benefit from it. While opponents may be more organised, vocal and visible, they don’t represent the silent majority.
