Sunrise yesterday morning at Loch Rusky on the edge of the Trossachs in central Scotland. Widely acknowledged to be one of the most beautiful lochs in Scotland. Resident breeding ospreys have now migrated back to the west coast of Africa. Stunning place. #Scotland #Autumn #Fall #OMSystem #iPhone

Surrounding forest is managed for softwood conifer production but the banks of the loch are majority rowans and other deciduous trees.

Mist rising off the loch surface after a cold night. First ground frost of the season.

Red Deer rut is starting and a stag could be heard bellowing from somewhere close by.

That is what I initially thought so I left them for another couple of weeks to see how they developed. There are lots of Stump Puffballs in that area and they are all fine. Certainly possible though.

I have never seen them over there as I am there at the wrong time of year. But maybe someone has.

Hi Stuart. Yes, I’ll ask Joanie @joaniemcnaughton.bsky.social to get someone from the Lothian Group to check them over. Thanks David

That was my thought initially but although it has been fairly warm up here it has also been quite wet.

ID help requested. I spotted these in a Midlothian woodland a couple of weeks ago. Returned today to see what they developed into and take fresh shots. Puffballs of some kind. Not something I have seen before. More info in ALT Text. #Fungi #MushroomID

I spotted the first up here exactly one month ago. We were getting fairly regular rain through August and certainly never as dry as the South of the UK.
