Did you know that the name lapwing is thought to have derived from an Old English term meaning ‘leap with a flicker in it’? This is due to the way that dense winter flocks of lapwings appear to flicker when the birds flap their wings, showing off their black and white plumage. 📸 © Jon Hawkins

The Trust has been engaging with visitors to Falls of Clyde for over 40 years, but the way in which people engage with this spectacular reserve has evolved over time. We have now taken the decision not to reopen our unstaffed visitor centre on the site. ⛓️ 1/4

We now have a number of sightings of sick red squirrels in Dollar, which we suspect to be squirrelpox. We have not yet had this confirmed by post mortem, but a recent video captured shows a red with symptoms of squirrelpox and we have ruled out some other likely causes, including leprosy.
