Visit to Forvie NNR 05/10/2026 @naturescot.bsky.social, noticed this one with a malformed foot. Head profile, steep forehead, makes me think Shag, but more likely Cormorant. I'm unsure. @rspbscotland.bsky.social @scottishbirding.bsky.social @btoscotland.bsky.social

On holiday staying in Tarland (VC92). Visited nearby Tomnaverie Stone Circle today. Spotted hairy caterpillar on path. Two ID apps say it is Ruby Tiger, Phragmatobia fuliginosa. Do they occur this far north and if so, is it this? @bchighland.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Helen's #BirdOfTheDay theme today is #BokehBirds - any bird captured with a soft, muted or blurry background. Bonus points for any bokeh balls! ☺️🪶📷️ Afraid I don't have any bokey balls!! RSPB Loch Leven, July this year. Alt: #AwkwardAvian - any bird captured in a silly, clumsy or strange position!

11yrs ago today Cockenzie Power Station twin chimneys were demolished. Reason for closure of power station was an EU directive to comply with atmospheric pollution targets. It is proposed that the site be used for a hyper-scale AI data centre. Ironic. @lothianloop.bsky.social @edinburghminute.com

Common Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) stand off between 2 males. Neither wanted to give up their leafy perch. Same one flew off a few times but kept coming back. Please ignore waving about, 5mins worth of hand-held heavy camera, windy day! @britishdragonflies.bsky.social @scotwildlife.bsky.social

Rob has said today’s: " #BirdOfTheDay themes are a simple pair today with #Pigeons, any Pigeon will do; and Alt theme is #SittingOnWater, any bird/duck/goose/swan sitting on water.” For the first a Stock Dove (Duddingston Loch, Edinburgh) and the Alt is Fulmar pair (Eynhallow Sound, Orkney).
