There is no such thing as art without a human on one end of the line and a human on the other end. In communication with each other.
A city that exists
There is no such thing as art without a human on one end of the line and a human on the other end. In communication with each other. Like a closed electric circuit (?) I could explain that better but I spent my life appreciating art. There are pieces of writing that stand on their own without any supplementary information but there's a reason that when we read a classic poem or short story we usually soon after want to know when and where and under which conditions it was written. Same with music. You can hear a song you like and appreciate it knowing little but the first question people often ask when you play them something by a new band is where are they from? It’s funny that you should ask because they are from a city that exists. Art is a conversation where the particulars of the world are made universal and the universal is made particular. Think about how powerful an engine of imagination it is for a young person hearing a band and learning that they are from some far off place – Tokyo or New York or even somewhere gross like the UK. It is a time portal. It is magic. It even works if the artist dead. So too with a painting. The little information plaque in the museum is an extraordinarily powerful tool. What if it said no one painted this nowhere? Well then you’d be looking at nothing. And now what would you be?

Did you know that Woodside's Browse gas project – starting in the early 2030s at the soonest – will likely get to pretend that it has always existed under Australia's climate pollution laws in order to avoid laws specifically put in place to hold that project to a higher standard? Now you do!
Estimated annual emissions allowance for Browse gas project under Australia's climate pollution laws

Substantial loopholes in Australia's climate pollution laws mean that Woodside's Browse project may avoid being treated as a new facility under laws specifically designed to hold that project to a higher standard. This is occurring even though the project will not commence until the early 2030s at the soonest. It is new by any reasonable measure.

The total benefit of this loophole to Woodside and its joint venture partners is in the order of $210 million.

Which one is Scott Morrison speaking to press in the midst of the 2020 Australian bushfires? Which one is Anthony Albanese speaking to press after the 2026 Nepal floods?
"There have been a lot of provocative comments made [about climate change] over the last few days from all sides of the debate and I find it very unhelpful. There is a time and a place to debate controversial issues and important issues, right now it's important to focus on the needs of Australians who need our help”

“There will be time to examine the science and what has occurred here. My thoughts are solely focused, at this point in time, on the families and on the extraordinarily difficult time that we’re going through and offering our support….those debates will take place. But I don't think, from Australia's perspective, now's the time”
