Dangerous fire weather conditions are forecast across portions of the Great Basin and Southwest today as a robust fire weather pattern begins for an expansive portion of the Intermountain West.
An infographic from the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center titled "Key Messages for Friday Jun 26 Fire Weather" and updated "Jun 26, 2026, 4:26 AM MDT."

A subtitle reads: "Extremely Critical Fire Weather Conditions Likely Today Over Parts of the Great Basin/Southwest."

Bullet points on the left outline the following text:

Overview: Extremely critical fire weather conditions are forecast to develop today from northern Arizona into eastern Nevada and into southern and central Utah, with critical conditions extending into southwest Wyoming and western Colorado.

Primary Risks: Exceptionally dry and windy conditions will promote significant fire weather concerns for any new ignitions, lightning holdovers, and ongoing large fires across these areas.

Timing: Strong sustained southwest winds of 25-35 mph amid very dry relatively humidity values of 5-15% will likely develop this afternoon, with the worst conditions from northern Arizona into central and southern Utah.

Safety Actions: Use caution with any potential ignition sources. Stay aware and follow instructions from emergency officials.

On the right, a weather map highlights regional fire threats across the Southwest and Great Basin. A magenta polygon marks an "Extreme" risk zone covering southern Utah (including Cedar City and St. George) and stretching down toward Las Vegas and northern Arizona. Surrounding this is a large red "Critical" risk area extending into northern Utah (Salt Lake City, Provo), northern Arizona (Flagstaff), eastern Nevada, western Colorado (Grand Junction), and southwest Wyoming. A broader orange "Elevated" risk zone envelopes the entire region, reaching into parts of southern California and New Mexico.

Fire Weather Outlook for Friday June 26th from the Storm Prediction Center. Extremely Critical fire weather conditions are forecast for Utah and portions of southeastern Nevada and northwestern Arizona. Red Flag Warning infographic. A Red Flag Warning is issued when critical fire weather conditions are happening or about to happen. It does not necessarily mean there is a fire, but that conditions will be very dry and windy. If a fire is present, it can become extreme! Avoid activities that could spark a wildfire.
