Utah’s snow was already in bad shape. The recent heat wave zapped what was left. In just nine days in March, Utah lost half of its snowpack. You can see the nosedive (black line) on this graph. The green line is the median, and the pink line is the previous low. More: www.kuer.org/science-envi...

More Utah temperature records set yesterday. It looks like Kanab's high was 8 degrees warmer than its previous record, which had stood since 1956. #utwx

Utah's statewide snowpack is no longer at a record low. It had been in record low territory since late January. Levels are still well below average for this time of year (4th percentile). Snowpack across the Upper Colorado River Basin region remains record low, as seen in the second graph.

The Alta Ski Area near Salt Lake City hit 50 degrees yesterday, Jan 14th. That tied for the day's warmest high temperature on record. Alta's historical normal for a high temp on Jan 14th is 31 degrees. It's a continuation of the record-breaking warmth Utah saw in 2025: www.kuer.org/science-envi...
