Idk, I think that could be pretty easily explained by either hochul being a very weak candidate, historically, or NY voters liking Dems less/Rs more at the state level than they do nationally (which is a pretty consistent dynamic across the northeast)

On here this is a preaching to the choir thing to say, but the turn against Indian immigrants is the sharpest possible example of ‘real debate, fake debate’ wrt heritability of IQ. 90% of the guys Just Following The Science are now waxing rhapsodically about white indigenous ways of knowing.

Sometimes my wife and I like to send each other text messages as though they’re democratic fundraising messages, and I believe she has produced the jewel of the form.
, it's
and I
have some personal news to share with you.
Being a mom is one of the greatest joys of my life, and I feel deeply that we should have salad tonight
This year has been challenging in many ways, and I have immense gratitude for the kindness and support of family, community, and people like you who have continued to stand by me through everything. It means the world, and I wanted you to be among the first to know that squash is in the oven and kale is in the fridge. As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
With love and gratitude,
stop to end

And then those states did things like take over the Detroit public education system. You can't separate the effort to give power back to the states from the effort by those states to take power away from their cities through policy & through gerrymandering.

No matter how much we futz with the clock, the ultimate problem is that there just isn’t enough sun like November to April. The whole “daylight savings” argument was manufactured to keep us from asking the real question: why has science not figured out how to make the days longer year-round?

If our goal is to be a mass working-class organization, having a special pipeline to leadership for college students sits in profound tension with that. If you're 18, it shouldn't matter if you're in college, an apprenticeship, or just working: you're a grownup and can organize with the rest of us.

Staples Rezoning: Results
STATEMENT FROM COUNCIL MEMBER
KAYLA SANTOSUOSSO
For the last several months I have been in negotiations with the developers for the Staples property. While this is likely one of the last rezoning votes I can make in Bay Ridge, negotiations were still heavily shaped by the charter changes that take effect in January.
The developers made clear that if the Council did not approve a modified project, they would take advantage of the new rules to resubmit at their original building - or an even bigger, denser building - for expedited approval and with no wins for our community.Staples Rezoning: Results

The moral of this angle is more "you can't start wars with your neighbors & expect to retain total security". Like the Saudi military is incompetent, but even if they weren't they'd be facing a lot of the same challenges because they've made bad strategic decisions. Similar to why US is struggling.

claude's ontological status is "an ant who lives on a map of the world." so it seems sensible to say that the map is not real, and the ant therefore isn't. the problem is that the moment i am experiencing is also a map of the world, not the territory, assembled asynchronously from sense impressions.

This new study of UK Jews showing that 66%, two-thirds, identify as Zionist (www.theguardian.com/news/2026/oc...), makes me more skeptical of claims that only 37% of American Jews identify as Zionists (www.jta.org/2026/02/05/u...) because they're too afraid to do so because the word is stigmatized.
