A fun couple of days working on by-catch including lots of Trichoptera (Caddis Flies) a few Neuroptera (Lacewings), one chunky Megaloptera (Alder Fly) and a couple of Plecoptera (Stoneflies). More records for the client, beyond Diptera. A close up of Agrypnia varia below dipteraid.co.uk/projects/

Four of those square meters (2 yoga mats worth) are mine, all mine! Yoga teachers cannot expect to provide free beach sessions and not get gifted a piece of wetland in return. So nice to see the joy it brings when you tell somebody that their kind act sparked another. Priceless.

@vannabartlett.bsky.social starting to attempt non-diptera sent in samples, not the best condition, I think i can see six holes where setae were on rear edge of cephalathorax, tergites are not split, Chthonius orthodactylus? Maybe should have started with a pristine specimen 🙂 Any help appreciated!

Chrysopa dorsalis yesterday in Bengeo garden, rare lacewing associated with Pines. One of two green lacewing species with significant darkened markings on head & body. Head pattern distinguishes it from much commoner perla. @kitenet.bsky.social #Neuroptera #attractedtolight

Dear councils, 97% of UK meadows are gone. So if you have wildflowers like ox-eye daisies on roadverges and in public spaces, don't spray them with weedkiller or over-mow them. Let's give pollinating insects like bees and butterflies a chance 🐝

Grapefruit skins & the search for the larvae of one of the rarest flies in the UK - the Barred Green Colonel. Larvae live in wet moss in a rare habitat - a calcareous (lime-rich) alkaline spring-fen in just one site. Great work by the SRT! @dipteristsforum.bsky.social @uk-soldierflies.bsky.social
