Unpopular opinion: I’ve signed a few of these open letters, but frankly, that is not enough. Faculty need to organize AND unionize. I began my #ProfessorLife in a union shop (Wayne State) & I’m now in AAUP-AFT’s at large chapter. Best time to unionize was yesterday. Second best is today.

As Republicans attack Black history, I paid a visit to my alma mater and discovered there’s a lot I don’t know about the history of Black people on my own college campus. All the more reason why we must teach that history, not just in Black History Month but every month of the year.

Columbia’s violent repression of students who are critical of Israel continues

"Students are being pulled into these proceedings with very few due process protections and little to no transparency," said Amy Greer, a lawyer who has worked with multiple students facing disciplinary proceedings in the OlE. The students are then asked "to defend speech like posters or stickers that say 'Stop Arming Israel, or Instagram posts that call for walkouts, or art exhibitions, or a communication that simply asks for change of class time in order to attend a protest," she said.
