Sure that right now a good number of journalists are being set to work somehow linking Andy Burnham to the Manchester City scandal. Somehow. Anyhow. Knew, didn’t know, didn’t look hard enough, anything, he was mayor for God’s sake! He has to have some of this on him! Do you *want* to rejoin the EU?

I can see it playing out as one ping low-level election campaign, the message of the speech being repeated every time. A year to set the narrative themes, a year dealing with commissions on voting reform, care and Europe and then a year building the full vision before an election in 2029. It’s smart

What makes composition accessible for those who can’t is learning to play the guitar. It’ll take you about ten weeks to learn the basics of rhythm, chords and how they fit together. Practice regularly and you’ll be composing in no time. Unless you’re a lazy cunt and just want something shit, now

Amazing how one closure can fuck up the entire south-west quadrant of a major city, plus two motorways, but we don’t need trams

Further to this, what this implies is a two tier entertainment system - human-made stuff available, of course, at a price; and for the rest, the kind of AI-generated prolefeed (very likely also stuffed full of ads) the OP seems to endorse

We all know art is a waste of time, the cave AI prompts on the walls at Lascaux predate the invention of musical instruments by thousands of years

Just read Burnham's speech. It has an intellectual core and is offering something that isn't just either repetitive platitudes or self-interest spite. It has a human voice, and considering the last two Labour leaders have either gone mainly 'meep' or 'huff' I hope people can bear to listen this time

Doug is ONLINE @dasmunch.eurosky.social · 29/09/2026
The Burnham speech was very good. I hope that when the time comes people will go for the 'something' being offered by him and the 'piss-soaked nothing' that the parties of the Right will be serving up. Again. Like they have for the last forty fucking years

My random collection of comedy mp3s has thrown up Definite Article by Eddie Izzard, and it’s like a window on the past. When did you last have to think about queue strategy in the supermarket? It’s interesting how things just vanish and barely anyone notices

I'm enjoying the tone of the Labour conference so far, it seems like quite a lot of positive messages and ideas. I'm sure we'll be bitterly disappointed in time. It is also quite nice to think that Badenoch/Farage will now spend so much time being dicks about these ideas they won't get to their own

'Which taxes do you want to raise instead?' should be the default question to anyone who calls for reductions in immigration.

They’re not going give them diplomatic cover and a fake passport, no, they’re going to sit them on a precarious dinghy crossing that may well sink, or at best have everyone on it arrested and thrown into an asylum camp. Classic Iran! What a bunch of jokers

Underneath all the glee from fans of other clubs at Man City’s fall from grace, I see a discomfort that you know your own beloved club either has done it as well, or would have done if they’d had the chance. You let your sport be eaten by money. Same with F1 and the IPL. You can’t crow about it now

NOT John Entwistle, Chris Wolstenholme, Flea, anyone who slaps incessantly (with an honorable exception for Mark King, because Level 42's Something About You is a banger). These people suck, play far, far too many notes too loudly and simply do not understand what bass playing is actually for

Treated to see if this also takes account of the stuff from yesterday about anti-Reform tactical voting being the position of at least half of voters. Would I vote Conservative to keep Reform out? Given where I now live, I can’t say I wouldn’t have to

What’s ironic here is that I am one of the few people I know who probably do fit into this definition of Englishness, and yet I want absolutely nothing to do with anyone who’d think this, and the principle it contains is abhorrent to me! Hilarious, amirite

I was working at a school for this - end of year show for 6th Form, the drama teacher did an erotic interpretative dance to This Woman’s Work by Kate Bush; Red chiffon dress, tear-stained makeup, all… kind of oddly aimed at another teacher? Turned out they’d been having an affair and he’d dumped her

Year 10, day 1 at high school; Headmaster did a pep talk about exam success full of talk about hunting success and killing targets etc, followed by him blowing a whistle and looking awkwardly at us for a full 10 seconds; years later I found the same quotes in American Psycho by Brett Easton Ellis

fairly simple hypotheticals which quickly lead to a dark place, what if: - your man "Tommo" had intercepted that dinghy before the RNLI? - the police hadn't been there to hold back the crowds in Gosport/Portsmouth? - the mob in that hotel had actually found "migrants"?

Reading this I am oddly heartened that Tommo and his scum fucking coked up mates are more likely to get out of control in the Channel and drown themselves than stop the RNLI, Coastguard and the French coastal patrol, who have actual guns and I assume would be much happier to shoot him than UK bodies

not trying to criticize or go on the defence, I just don't think our southern neighbours necessarily recognize that Canadians favour a set of spellings that are somewhere in the centre of American English and what is commonly labelled British English

The message I’ve taken from this is, hey, we really have got kids coming out of schools brighter than the rest, consistently top class in a wide range of subjects and ready to work, and then the great British businesses we pass them to will do absolutely nothing with them to avoid spending any money
