Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 05/10/2026He should be grateful Congress is only talking about expanding the court, and not creating a new upper appellate court to take over its appellate jurisdiction, leaving SCOTUS with its original jurisdiction cases and nothing else. Expanding the court is a tempered response. 020

Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Maybe. But right now, my home town has a lot of empty buildings, including big box stores, complete with large empty parking lots. Seems to me it shouldn't be THAT costly to turn some of them into mid-rise housing, given that they're producing no income for their owners right now. 000

Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Landlords also hate rent control, but it still happens. Any government that has the power to impose rent control also has the power to build a lot of new housing themselves and/or create development incentives to overbuild. It's really just a question of priorities. 100
Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Rent control should be only a temporary measure, imposed in conjunction with a massive effort to build a LOT of new rental housing until there's an apartment surplus. (Also, it's "great for rent-controlled tenants" only as long as they don't want to move.) 280

If he didn't, it's a federal felony that could put him in prison for up to ten years AND fine him for twice the value of the property he destroyed. That's certainly worth a Congressional investigation at very least. 010
Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 28/09/2026That's because he IS immune from any kind of legal limit. Our system keeps showing him that, over and over again. 000

Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 27/09/2026No downside whatsoever. But if there's too much political obstruction from "centrists" to do it all at once, "cover the kids" seems to me like a good short-term policy to build political support for universal coverage. 120
Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Medicare for children is a great place to start. As a population, they're really inexpensive to ensure. Cover everyone under 18 to start, then raise the top age year by year so they can stay on until they are 25 or 26. That will build a HUGE constituency to make it truly universal. 240

Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 25/09/2026When the Democrats are back in power, Congress can perform the legislative equivalent of major surgery on the judicial branch to widely decentralize judicial power, and reform the appellate process to strip SCOTUS of most of its power and end its abuses forever. 000
Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Just a reminder: Congress has the power to build the judicial branch in ANY way that Congress sees fit. Other than its original jurisdiction, the Supreme Court has only as much power as Congress allows it to have. 100
Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Abolish ICE. Reform immigration. A well-designed immigration system does NOT require armed thugs. Douglas Kelso @darkpoole.bsky.social · 22/09/2026The Supreme Court wields the power that it has ONLY because Congress doesn't rein them in.
